We are looking for a detail oriented and motivated Junior Payroll Administrator to join our Human Resources team in Paarl. This role is ideal for someone with hands on payroll and time & attendance experience who thrives in a structured, deadline driven environment.
Purpose of the RoleThe successful candidate will assist with the preparation and processing of wage payrolls, support off site employees with timekeeping systems, verify payroll inputs, resolve discrepancies, and assist with payroll related queries while supporting the payroll team.
Key Performance Outputs Payroll Processing- Collect, review, and validate payroll input data
- Follow up on incorrect or missing payroll information
- Process payroll transactions including: new employees and terminations, working hours, additional earnings, deductions, and leave; generate, distribute, and obtain sign off on payroll reports; distribute payslips accurately and timeously
- Process and reconcile leave transactions
- Validate leave balances and monitor compliance (including 8 week sick leave rule)
- Resolve leave related queries
- Maintain complete and accurate payroll records
- Ensure compliance with labour legislation and the POPI Act
- Safeguard sensitive and confidential employee information
- Validate ETI and statutory employee information
- Assist with Skills Development and Equity data on payroll systems
- Provide payroll reports and assist with ad hoc HR and payroll tasks
- Matric (Grade 12) is essential
- A relevant qualification in Payroll, Accounting, Finance, or Human Resources (advantageous)
- Minimum 2 years' experience processing payroll
- Minimum 2 years' experience working with time and attendance systems
- Hands on experience processing payroll and leave transactions on a payroll system
- Experience with Sage 300 People will be advantageous
- Exposure to time and attendance systems
- Experience with Farm Costing Solutions will be advantageous
- Experience or working knowledge of ETI (advantageous)
- Solid understanding of payroll principles, statutory deductions, and contributions
- Working knowledge of payroll, labour legislation, and compliance requirements
- Proficiency in MS Excel and Outlook
- Strong numerical ability with exceptional accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Proven ability to plan, prioritise, and meet strict deadlines
- Ability to work proactively, independently, and under pressure
- Strong problem solving skills and a solutions driven mindset
- Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion
