Job DescriptionThe Programme Coordinator and Lecturer plays a critical academic leadership role within the Faculty of Humanities, combining programme coordination, curriculum oversight, and high-quality teaching.
The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating and delivering the Diploma in Criminal Justice and Higher Certificate in Criminal Justice programmes, ensuring compliance with CHE and DHET requirements, maintaining academic standards, and supporting student success in both contact and distance learning environments.
This role requires a strong subject-matter expert who can integrate academic leadership with operational effectiveness and student engagement.
Main Purpose of the JobTo coordinate and deliver academically rigorous, industry-aligned Criminal Justice programmes while ensuring regulatory compliance, effective programme administration, and strong student support.
The role contributes to institutional excellence through curriculum development, academic governance participation, and continuous programme improvement.
Teaching, Learning & Content Development Regulatory Compliance Academic Administration Research & Professional Development Academic Governance & Leadership Student Engagement & Support Examination & Assessment Management KEY RESPONSIBILITIESOversee the coordination and delivery of assigned programmes.
Lead curriculum development and periodic programme reviews.
Ensure alignment with HEQF, CHE, and DHET requirements.
Monitor programme performance and implement continuous improvements.
Engage with internal and external stakeholders to maintain academic relevance.
2. Teaching, Learning & Content DevelopmentDeliver engaging lectures and learning materials across contact and distance platforms.
Develop and update curriculum content aligned to industry standards.
Design assessments aligned to learning outcomes.
Provide structured academic support and mentorship to students.
3. Regulatory ComplianceEnsure programme compliance with accreditation and regulatory frameworks.
Support reporting, documentation, and quality assurance processes.
Contribute to audit readiness and accreditation reviews.
4. Academic AdministrationMaintain accurate academic records and assessment documentation.
Support registration and graduation verification processes.
Coordinate programme logistics and academic reporting.
5. Research & Professional DevelopmentContribute to academic research and scholarship within the discipline.
Integrate research into teaching and curriculum development.
6. Academic Governance & LeadershipParticipate in faculty committees and governance structures.
Contribute to strategic faculty planning and academic quality initiatives.
Support academic innovation and continuous improvement.
7. Student Engagement & SupportProvide academic consultations and structured student support.
Identify and support at-risk students.
Promote student engagement and academic success.
Assist with recruitment and onboarding of sessional lecturers.
Monitor performance and ensure academic quality standards are maintained.
Provide guidance and oversight to ensure curriculum alignment.
9. Examination & Assessment ManagementCoordinate assessments and examinations in line with academic calendar.
Ensure assessment integrity and moderation processes.
Compile assessment reports and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements QualificationsMaster's Degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or related field (required).
PhD in a relevant field (advantageous).
Experience1-3 years lecturing experience in higher education.
Experience in Criminal Justice or Criminology programmes.
Experience in distance learning environments advantageous.
Exposure to curriculum development and regulatory compliance processes.
Skills and CompetenciesStrong academic leadership and programme coordination ability.
