Carlow University is currently accepting applications for two full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in the Master of Social Work (MSW) Program. Both are a nine-month academic appointment on the Oakland campus in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. One position may begin in January 2027, and one will begin in August 2027.
The primary responsibilities of both positions include teaching graduate social work courses, advising and mentoring students, contributing to course, curriculum, and program development, assessing student learning outcomes, and engaging in scholarship and service consistent with a tenure-track faculty appointment.
The ideal candidate will be a scholar-practitioner whose work, teaching, and scholarship are grounded in trauma-informed practice and who is committed to cultural humility, social justice, and the future of liberal arts and professional education in a rapidly changing environment.
Preferred candidates will demonstrate the ability to engage students in issues of race, equity, inclusion, and justice and will be able to articulate a clear connection between Carlow University’s Catholic, Mercy mission and their teaching, scholarship, and service. Preferred candidates will have practice experience in macro social work and/or direct practice.
Requirements and Qualifications
Required:
• Ph.D. in Social Work or closely related field, or DSW and an MSW degree from a CSWE-accredited program
• Minimum of two years of full-time post-MSW practice experience
• Minimum of two years of experience teaching in higher education, including demonstrated experience with online synchronous and asynchronous teaching to diverse populations
• Ability to use instructional technologies, including a learning management system, Microsoft Office applications, and other tools that support student learning and professional collaboration
• Experience with interdisciplinary course development, scholarship, and collaboration with university programs and community partners
• Experience with CSWE national standards and accreditation requirements
• State social work license, LSW or LCSW

The Opportunity
The School of Social Work in the College of Health Professions and Sciences at the University of Central Florida invites applications for a 12-month, non‑tenure-earning, instructor or lecturer position. The selected candidate will be expected to teach face-to-face courses on the UCF main campus, with an anticipated start date of Spring 2027.
The ideal candidate will have a primary focus on teaching in both the BSW and MSW programs across online and campus-based formats. The position emphasizes excellence in teaching, fostering student engagement, and the effective delivery of undergraduate and/or graduate curriculum. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate is expected to engage in meaningful service at the school, college, university, and community levels.
The School of Social Work is recognized nationally for the quality of its educational programs and its contributions to clinical social work, health care, scholarship, and community engagement. The school includes 34 full-time faculty, 14 staff, numerous adjunct instructors, and more than 900 students. The school offers both BSW and MSW programs with multiple campus based and online tracks.
The College of Health Professions and Sciences includes three schools, one department, and six centers and institutes and is a core member of the UCF Academic Health Sciences Center, alongside the College of Nursing and College of Medicine. The college is committed to interdisciplinary collaboration and community impact.
Minimum Qualifications
• For instructor rank, candidates must hold an MSW from a CSWE -accredited program at the time of application.
• For lecturer rank, candidates must hold an MSW from a CSWE-accredited program and a Ph.D./DSW in Social Work or related field from an accredited institution at the time of application.
• At least one year of teaching experience in face to face and/or online formats.
• Two years of post MSW clinical social work practice experience.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in sport social work or child and adolescent social work.
• Demonstrated ability to build and implement innovative teaching practices, with evidence of strong teaching accomplishments and curriculum development.

Position Details
We are seeking a Visiting Assistant Professor of Social Work to lead the design and launch of our first Master of Social Work (MSW) program and serve as the inaugural MSW Program Director. This individual will play a critical role in addressing the behavioral health needs of our region by training the next generation of social workers to thrive in rural settings.
In the first 6 months - 1 year, the Visiting Assistant Professor of Social Work will focus solely on the development of the new MSW program and preparation for accreditation reviews with HLC and CSWE. The new online MSW program will directly improve the health and well-being of a rural region and will be tailored for working professionals in remote areas. The degree will focus on rural social work and collaborate with institutional and community partners.

The Visiting Assistant Professor is anticipated to begin teaching classes in the Department of Sociology in 2027.
Key responsibilities for this position include:
• Curriculum Development: Lead a cross-functional team to co-create a curriculum for an MSW program that is aligned with the 2022 CSWE Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS).
• Accreditation Leadership: Direct the multi-year CSWE accreditation process, including the preparation of benchmark documents and ensuring compliance with all core competencies.
• Field Education Design: Establish a robust field education program, including the development of a field manual and securing affiliation agreements with agencies to provide the required hours of student practice.
• Strategic Growth: Develop a hiring plan for future MSW faculty and lead student recruitment and admissions processes.

Purpose of Position
This mission of the College of Nursing & Professional Disciplines (CNPD) is to provide excellent and collaborative education, scholarship, and service to advance human well-being for all, with an emphasis on rural and underserved populations.
The CNPD is comprised of three departments: Nursing, Nutrition & Dietetics, and Social Work.
The department of Social Work is seeking an adjunct instructor who will be responsible for the planning, presentation and evaluation of classroom instruction and all related activities.

Minimum Requirements
