Job Description
As the Head of Payroll, you will play a critical leadership role in overseeing a complex, multi jurisdictional payroll environment, ensuring consistent, compliant, and timely payroll delivery across multiple countries, entities, and systems. This role is responsible for establishing global payroll governance, managing statutory and tax compliance, strengthening financial and audit controls, and leading regional payroll teams. By providing strategic oversight, operational excellence, and strong stakeholder leadership, the Global Payroll Manager ensures payroll is not only a transactional function, but a trusted, well governed global service that supports our people, our growth, and our risk obligations.
Responsibilities- Global Payroll Governance & Oversight - Provide overall ownership and governance of payroll operations across multiple jurisdictions, entities, payroll systems, and service delivery models. Oversee the review and sign off of accurate, complete, and timely payroll processing across all regions, ensuring consistency of standards, controls, and outcomes.
- Leadership & Global Team Management - Lead, mentor, and develop regional and functional payroll teams, including Payroll Managers, Specialists, Analysts, and Coordinators across multiple locations. Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and accountability frameworks; drive performance management, succession planning, and capability uplift.
- Compliance, Risk & Regulatory Management - Maintain oversight of payroll compliance across all jurisdictions, ensuring adherence to country specific tax, statutory, and employment regulations. Partner with stakeholders and external advisors to monitor legislative changes; design and enforce control and segregation of duties frameworks.
- Financial Controls, Reporting & Assurance - Embed robust payroll controls, reconciliations, and sign off frameworks; oversee payroll related reporting, statutory submissions, cost analysis, and GL integrity. Lead internal and external audit readiness and remediation actions.
- Systems, Data & Process Optimisation - Own the global payroll systems landscape; partner with HRIS, Finance, and Technology teams to ensure integration, data accuracy, and scalability. Drive continuous improvement, standardisation, and automation of payroll processes; safeguard data security and information security compliance.
- Stakeholder & Employee Experience Enablement - Act as the senior escalation point for complex payroll, tax, and cross border matters; set service standards for payroll related employee support; maintain strong stakeholder relationships to align payroll with organisational objectives.
- Tax, Benefits & Third Party Coordination - Oversee payroll related tax and benefits administration; manage relationships with external payroll vendors, tax authorities, and benefit providers; ensure accurate execution of payroll related payments and filings in accordance with global approval frameworks.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related discipline (post graduate degree preferred).
- 8-10+ years of progressive payroll experience, with at least 5 years in senior, regional or global payroll leadership.
- Demonstrated experience managing large scale, multi jurisdictional and multi entity payrolls.
- Strong experience with enterprise payroll and HRIS platforms (e.g., Payspace, Workday, ADP).
- Background in payroll governance, risk management, and financial controls, including audit support.
- Advanced analytical and problem solving skills; ability to interpret payroll data for risk and improvement insights.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to engage senior stakeholders.
- High attention to detail; strong organisational and project management skills.
- Proficiency in advanced Excel and payroll reporting tools.
- Professional payroll or finance certifications (e.g., CPP, CIPP, Global Payroll certifications) are an advantage.
- In depth knowledge of sports betting markets and online gaming industry regulations.
- Experience with global ERP or finance systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics Business Central).
- Experience managing multi currency payroll environments and cross border payments.
- Track record of building, mentoring, and coaching payroll teams in a global structure.
- Experience with payroll transformation initiatives and shared service models.
- Familiarity with gambling regulations and compliance requirements across jurisdictions.
