An exclusive ultra-luxury safari lodge is seeking an experienced and passionate Head Guide to lead its guiding department and deliver exceptional guest experiences in a pristine wilderness environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all guiding operations, mentoring and developing guides, ensuring the highest standards of safety and guest engagement, and creating unforgettable wildlife encounters aligned with a world-class hospitality experience.

This role requires a dynamic leader with extensive bush knowledge, strong people management skills, and a genuine passion for conservation and luxury hospitality.

Key Responsibilities
Guiding & Guest Experience
  • Lead daily game drives, bush walks, and interpretive wilderness activities
  • Deliver exceptional, personalised guest experiences with a strong focus on storytelling and wildlife interpretation
  • Ensure consistently high guiding standards across the team
  • Host VIP guests and special-interest groups professionally and confidently
  • Assist with guest hosting during meals, transfers, and lodge activities when required
Leadership & Team Management
  • Manage, mentor, and train the guiding team
  • Conduct ongoing guide assessments and development plans
  • Create and manage guide rosters and activity schedules
  • Foster a positive, professional, and conservation-focused team culture
  • Support recruitment and onboarding of new guides
Operational & Safety Management
  • Ensure all guiding activities comply with safety procedures and reserve regulations
  • Maintain rifles, vehicles, radios, and guiding equipment to required standards
  • Oversee vehicle checks and lodge field operations
  • Assist with reserve management and conservation initiatives where required
  • Ensure all incident reports and operational records are completed accurately
Conservation & Environmental Awareness
  • Promote responsible tourism and environmental stewardship
  • Participate in wildlife monitoring, conservation projects, and ecological reporting
  • Educate guests on local ecosystems, conservation efforts, and biodiversity
Requirements
  • Proven experience in a senior guiding or Head Guide position within a luxury safari environment
  • Valid First Aid certification
  • Valid driver's licence with PDP
  • Rifle competency and dangerous game experience advantageous
  • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional knowledge of African wildlife, ecology, and birding
  • Ability to thrive in a remote, high-pressure environment
