The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Assistant/Associate Athletic Trainer, Intercollegiate Athletics [R0147650] . ROLE of the POSITION Primary responsibilities include providing direct medical support for the UNLV sport teams as assigned, which will include daily practice, game coverage and travel during the season. This position also includes coverage for home events and other events as deemed necessary. Home coverage includes set up for the event and coordination with physicians and emergency services. In addition, this position will be responsible for assisting the athletic training staff in preventative health care, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries/illnesses for 17 sponsored intercollegiate athletic teams, cheerleading, dance and pom. This position will be required to comply with all NCAA, HIPPA and FERPA requirements and will maintain medical records, coordinates health care with physicians and will assist in the supervision and management of an athletic training facility. UNLV also sponsors a CAATE accredited undergraduate athletic training educational program and this position will be required to assist in the education of all student-athletes, undergraduate athletic training students and graduate students. This position should have a basic knowledge of NCAA rules as it pertains to assigned job duties and the scope of employment. In addition, the individual will be responsible for obtaining proper guidance or approval from Athletics Compliance, prior to participating in select activities, as defined by NCAA bylaws or institutional policies. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university and a minimum of one (1) year of comparable supervisory experience. Experience in a professional, college or university setting as a BOC Certified Trainer at the NCAA Division I level is required. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment. documents action taken in patient chart • Oversees appointment bookings and ensures emergency situations are scheduled appropriately • Communicates physician referral requests to staff for necessary processing • Triages incoming telephone calls; instructs patient and family regarding treatment instruction, then documents action taken in patient chart • Ensures that pertinent laboratory and radiology results are reviewed by the physician and communicated to patient • Telephones prescription requests to pharmacy; Responsible for the administration of injury/illness prevention, recognition, evaluation, management, treatment, disposition, and rehabilitation for student-athletes participating in the intercollegiate athletics program and enforces health care policies and procedures regarding medical insurance, physical examinations, and related activities for student-athletes. Follows risk management processes and communicates with health care professionals, student-athletes, parents, coaches, administrators, faculty, and students. The Assistant Athletic Trainer provides health care services specifically to designated sports and in general to all student-athletes for the College’s NCAA Division II institution sponsoring 26 intercollegiate athletic and club sport programs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Provides quality athlete care for student-athletes participating in the intercollegiate athletics program through management of all aspects of injury/illness prevention, recognition, evaluation, management, treatment, disposition, and rehabilitation, coordination of all medical health care efforts, accurate medical documentation and provides necessary to support the intercollegiate athletics program, and administration of the daily operational requirements of the Athletic Training Facility. 2. Facilitates student-athletes compliance with prescribed rehabilitative treatments by educating them about the causes and nature of their injuries and measures they can take to prevent recurrences, providing a thorough explanation of the reasons for and functions of the rehabilitative therapies, assisting student-athletes in correct performance of the therapies and exercises, evaluating their progress during rehabilitation, and providing the student-athletes with feedback. 4. Minimizes institutional liability in the performance of athletic training services by maintaining proper and current licensure and practicing in accordance with state requirements. 5. Assures compliance with federal (HIPAA, FERPA), state, and NCAA guidelines. 6. Manages risk through appropriate evaluation and procedures, diagnosis decisions, and emergency care decisions related to student athletes. 7. Serves as a liaison to health care providers, coaches, student athletes, administrators, and parents concerning the health care and health status of student athletes through injury reports, medical and legal documentation, direct communication and prepared statements. 8. Status: Full-Time Months Worked: 12 Month Job Summary: The Assistant Director of Athletics/Head Athletic Trainer develops and implements a program for athletic training applicable to the Division I intercollegiate athletics program at the Metropolitan Campus. This position reports to the Deputy Athletic Director for Operations and Senior Woman Administrator. The incumbent will also be responsible for the oversight and management of the department’s student-athlete drug testing policy and student-athlete insurance program. The position will serve as the day to day liaison to the head team physician and associated medical professionals at Holy Name Medical Center, the University Counseling Center and Student Health Services. This position will be required to have direct oversight for the daily athletic training responsibilities of the Men’s Basketball Program, including team travel. Required Qualifications: 1. Baccalaureate level degree with basic courses in anatomy, physical education, health or related topics. Master’s Degree in Sports Medicine required; certification as a physical therapist is preferred. 2. Certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association and New Jersey State (Athletic Trainer License) prior to the first day of employment. 3. Four to six years of applied experience in the field, preferably at the college level. 4. Strong communication, interpersonal and decision-making skills. 5. Must have First Aid and CPR – professional rescuer certification prior to the first day of employment. American Red Cross or American Heart Association certification preferred. 6. Must be able to work flexible hours as required including evenings, weekends and holidays. 7. Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record in accordance with the university’s Motor Vehicle policy.
