Weare seeking a qualified, experienced tutor with a strong understanding ofneurodiversity to support a Grade 9 learner following the IEB curriculum. Thelearner experiences challenges with working memory and slower processing speed,requiring patient, structured, and engaging one on one support.
Theideal candidate is personable, fun loving, and passionate about education. Theyshould be skilled at breaking down and compartmentalising information so thatonly the most important content is conveyed, while making learning practical,exciting, and accessible. This role requires someone sophisticated enough tounderstand how the neurodiverse brain works, and able to adapt teachingstrategies to suit the learner's needs.
Purpose of the role:
The essence of this role isto provide consistent, one on one academic support that builds confidence,strengthens comprehension, and equips the learner with practical tools forsuccess. The tutor will help the learner catch up after school, develop note takingand exam techniques, and foster critical appraisal skills to ensure knowledgecan be effectively demonstrated in assessments.
Job Objectives
- One on oneacademic tutoring across all subjects, with focused support in Afrikaans,Mathematics, and Science.
- Teachingnote taking skills and strategies for exam preparation.
- Supportingcomprehension and critical appraisal to improve exam performance.
- Delivering information repetitively and in chunks to make it accessibleand practical.
- Helpingthe learner manage working memory and slower processing speed throughtailored strategies.
- Makinglearning engaging, fun, and confidence building.
- Providing structuredinput for other subjects as needed.
Person requirements:
- Patient, engaging,and personable, with excellent English communication skills.
- Passionate abouteducation and able to make learning enjoyable.
- Skilled atunderstanding how neurodiverse learners process information.
- Able tocompartmentalise and simplify complex content.
- Creative indelivering practical, exciting learning experiences.
- Available Mondaysto Thursdays for one hour in the evenings at the family's residence.
Job Related Work Experience:
- Previous tutoring or teaching experience - Essential.
Job Related Knowledge:
- Familiarity with IEB curriculum - Desirable.
- Understanding of working memory and processing speed challenges - Essential.
- Knowledge of examtechniques and study skills - Essential.
Job Related Skills:
- Ability to plan and implement engaging, tailored learning strategies.
- Strong communication and relationship building skills.
- Skills in teachingcomprehension, note taking, and exam techniques.
- Organisational ability to structure catch up work effectively.
- Mondays to Thursdays, 1 hour in the evenings at the family's residence.
- Hourly rate: R200-R220/hourdepending on qualifications and experience.
