Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Environmental Sciences (A621.1)

Job Purpose

The main purpose of the position is to contribute to teaching and learning, research and innovation, engagement, leadership, and administration at the discipline (Environmental Sciences), school and faculty levels.

Key Performance Areas
  • Leadership: Provision of academic leadership at the module(s) level and in the Environmental Sciences Programme(s).
  • Teaching & Learning: Theoretical, research informed pedagogical teaching at university level.
  • Research: Production of accredited research outputs and supervision of postgraduate students leading to their graduation.
  • Engagement: Participation in engagement activities related to the discipline and the community, and learned societies.
Qualifications
  • MSc in Environmental Sciences, preferably with a Doctoral qualification or in progress.
  • Teaching experience of at least 5 years at university level.
  • Evidence of research activity - publications in accredited journals and conference presentations.
  • Good record of postgraduate supervision at Masters' level.
  • Experience with engagement activities and involvement in environmental societies.
Competencies and Skills
  • Disciplinary knowledge - deep understanding of theory and application of Environmental Sciences.
  • Leadership - contemporary theories of teaching and learning, mentoring and management principles.
  • Interpersonal - communication and teamwork.
  • Teaching & Learning - modern pedagogies, ability to teach online, tutoring/mentoring.
  • Research - supervision of undergraduate and honours degrees, grant writing.
  • Engagement - active participation in societies and understanding of university community engagement.
