Role Clarification & Key Performance AreasThe Faculty of Dentistry is a world class Oral Health Centre committed to the promotion of oral health through excellence of its Teaching & Learning, service rendering and research. The Faculty seeks professionally qualified candidates with excellent credentials for a post on the joint establishment of the University of the Western Cape and the Provincial Government of the Western Cape, on the conditions of service of the University of the Western Cape.
Responsibilities- Teaching and training on the combined platform - appropriate training, supervision and general teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate (MSc and PhD) students.
- Active participation in research relating to clinical, materials and prosthodontic health themes.
- Conduct, assist and stimulate research.
- Planning and implementing oral and dental education programmes.
- Participation in Faculty and departmental community engagement programmes.
- Administrative duties related to the post.
- Service rendering of patients at both Tygerberg & Mitchell's Plain sites.
- Control and management of clinical services as delegated by the Head of Department.
- Maintain satisfactory clinical, professional and ethical standards related to these services.
- Maintain necessary discipline over staff under his/her control.
- Any expertise in any of the sub specialities (e.g. Endodontics, Digital workflows, Implantology, etc.) in the field of Prosthodontics.
- Ability to work in a team.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Language proficiency in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.
- MSc and a PhD (Prosthodontics) degree.
- At least 10-15 years clinical experience post last qualification.
- 3 - 5 years teaching experience.
- Valid registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Dentist.
- Evidence of research and publications record (minimum 4) and postgraduate supervision (minimum 2 masters).
The level of appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience.
