The Department of Chemical Sciences is an academic unit within the Faculty of Science. The core functions of the departmentare teaching,training,andresearch.ThedepartmentissituatedonboththeAPKCampusinAucklandPark,and the DFC campus inJohannesburg.

Responsibilities:

  • Beactivelyinvolvedincoreactivitiesofthedepartmentsuchasteaching(generalandorganicchemistry), research, academic administration, short-course development, marketing, and community projects.
  • Assumeresponsibilitytoteachmodules(theoryand/orpractical)enlistedfortheChemistryundergraduate programme in the Department.
  • Theincumbentwillalsobeexpectedtoparticipateincurriculumdevelopmentandteachmodulesinpostgraduate programmes.
  • Annuallypublishpeer-reviewedpapersinaccreditedscientificand/oracademicjournals,anddeliverpapersat national and international conferences, commensurate with the level of appointment.
  • Obtainresearchfundingfromexternalfunding bodies.
  • PhDinChemistryor equivalent.
  • Musthaveteachingexperienceatundergraduate level.
  • Thecandidatemustbeabletoteachorganicchemistryatalllevelsandhavesustained,significantresearch outputs in ISI accredited journals.
  • Evidenceofcommunityand/orindustrialinvolvementwouldbe beneficial.
  • Soundcommunicationskillsin English.
