We're looking for a passionate Packaging Technologist to join our I&J Head Office in Woodstock, Cape Town. In this role, you will be accountable for the design, development, implementation and continuous improvement of packaging solutions for domestic and international markets. The role ensures packaging is fit for purpose, compliant with customer, regulatory, operational and quality requirements, while enabling innovation, cost optimisation, and speed to market.

Reporting Structure
  • Reports to: Senior Research and Development Manager
Key Areas of Impact Packaging Development and Innovation
  • Lead development of compliant, cost effective packaging solutions.
  • Ensure fit for purpose design across domestic and international markets.
  • Support innovation and sustainability initiatives.
Artwork and Design Management
  • Manage artwork processes with agencies and printers.
  • Ensure 100% accuracy and on time delivery for product launches.
  • Eliminate delays related to artwork or print issues.
Supplier and Co packer Performance
  • Drive supplier performance and technical capability.
  • Improve packaging execution and consistency.
  • Reduce defects, rejections and non conformances.
Compliance and Regulatory Management
  • Ensure full compliance with international standards and customer requirements.
  • Maintain audit ready systems and documentation.
  • Mitigate compliance risks and prevent delays.
Cost Optimisation and Continuous Improvement
  • Deliver measurable cost savings and efficiency improvements.
  • Optimize packaging without compromising quality.
  • Support margin and operational performance targets.
Cross functional collaboration and Delivery
  • Partner with Quality, Operations, Procurement, Commercial and Marketing Departments.
  • Ensure aligned execution and seamless project delivery.
  • Drive issue resolution and continuous improvement.
What It Takes to Succeed Experience that set you up for success
  • 3-5 years in packaging development within FMCG or Food manufacturing
  • A robust understanding of the technical aspects of printing, packaging materials and food packaging lines would be advantageous.
Qualifications & Certifications that will contribute to your success
  • Completed Grade 12 / Matric
  • A Degree/Diploma in Packaging Technology or equivalent is required.
  • Professional certifications in Packaging, Food Safety or Quality will be an advantage.
Additional Requirements that will enhance your impact for success
  • IPSA or equivalent packaging body affiliation would be advantageous
