NW Branch Club Coach
Job Description
SmartStart is a national network of NGOs and partners working to realise quality, affordable early learning for all children aged three to five. We are looking for a driven, self-motivated, and community-oriented person to join us as a Northwest Branch Club Coach.
This role is based in Moses Kotane and Kgetleng Municipalities and is focused on supporting and mentoring SmartStart practitioners, known as SmartStarters, who run their own independent early learning programmes and social enterprises. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping new practitioners launch and sustain quality programmes, while strengthening local early learning networks and building demand for quality early childhood development.
The Club Coach acts as a mentor, guide, and quality support partner to practitioners in the field. This includes recruiting new SmartStarters, supporting onboarding and licensing processes, quality assuring programmes, strengthening SmartStart clubs, and helping practitioners build the skills, confidence, and capabilities needed to run impactful and sustainable early learning enterprises.
The role requires regular travel across the district to visit SmartStart sites, engage practitioners, and build relationships with local stakeholders. The successful candidate will also be expected to travel to Johannesburg from time to time for SmartStart meetings and events.
This is a full-time fixed-term contract for an initial 12 months, with the potential for renewal and transition to a permanent role depending on operational needs and funding.

Requirements- A relevant tertiary qualification is preferred. A qualification in Community Development, Early Childhood Development, Education, or a related field will be advantageous.
- At least 1 year of experience in a coaching, mentoring, facilitation, management, or coordination role.
- At least 3 years of experience in ECD or a closely related field such as early learning, community development, education support, practitioner support, or field-based development work.
- Experience in the non-profit and/or development sector will be advantageous.
- A valid South African driver's licence is essential.
- Must have own reliable vehicle available for daily work travel, including travel to rural sites.
- Must be willing and able to work in Moses Kotane and Kgetleng Municipalities and travel regularly across the district.
- Must be willing to travel to Johannesburg from time to time for SmartStart meetings and events.
- Must be fluent in Setswana, which is the dominant language in the area.
- Good English written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as general internet use.
- Ability to maintain effective quality assurance systems.
- Ability to collect, manage, and report on qualitative and quantitative data.
- Ability to work independently, solve problems, show initiative, and remain flexible in a field-based role.
- Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, practitioners, communities, and stakeholders such as CWP, DBE, circuit offices, and local municipalities.
- Willingness to comply with SmartStart's Child Safeguarding Policy and undergo the required background and safeguarding checks.
