Responsibilities- Assist in the administration of one of the Clinics, reporting to the Director: UJ Law Clinic.
- You will clinically assess students and train them in a live-client environment.
- Prepare court cases and appear in court on behalf of clients.
- You will be expected to keep up with legal developments and to do research on current legal issues and developments.
- From time to time, specific tasks or projects will be allocated to you by the Director: UJ Law Clinic
- Supervise and organise the Secretary and Assistants at the Clinic every day/week.
- Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa. Three years' post-admission experience.
- Personal experience and personal appearances in Magistrates' Court Civil Litigation.
- Good written and spoken English.
- Experience in clinical legal training and assessment of students at a University Law Clinic.
- Experience in pro bono representation of clients in Court.
- Excellent computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet and e-mail) and good typing skills.
- Ability to supervise staff and students and train and assess students.
- Detail-oriented.
- Great legal knowledge and skills.
- A passion for the law and protection of the rights of vulnerable members of society.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Excellent teaching skills and good interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to collaborate with colleagues.
- Good planning and organizational skills.
- Ability to work well and collegially with others and within established processes.
- Punctuality.
- Ability to work in a pressurised environment and independently (and where necessary in a team).
- Writing and presentation skills.
- High level of integrity and ethical foundation
