Job Description
  • Legal Advisory & Risk Management
    • Provide legal advice to management and operational teams on commercial, employment and regulatory matters
    • Identify, assess and mitigate legal and compliance risks across hotel, food & beverage and property operations.
    • Ensure the Group operates within applicable laws, regulations and industry standards
    • Assist in managing disputes, litigation and engaging external legal counsel where required for more complex and intricate legal matters
  • Contract Management
    • Assist in drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements, including:
    • Management agreements
    • Lease agreements
    • Supplier and service contracts
    • Tour operator agreements
    • Event and venue agreements
    • Consultant and employment-related contracts
    • Maintain a central contract register and monitor contractual obligations and renewal deadlines
  • Regulatory & Statutory Compliance
    • Ensure compliance with requirements of regulators and authorities such as:
    • Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (Company law compliance)
    • Department of Employment and Labour (Employment legislation)
    • Information Regulator (Data protection and privacy compliance)
    • ESG related regulations imposed on the industry
    • Monitor regulatory developments and ensure policies and procedures remain compliant
    • Assist in engaging with Government and Municipal Authorities, regarding compliance and matters requiring formal approval
  • Corporate Governance
    • Support the Board & Executive team with governance matters, including:
    • Preparation of resolutions
    • Maintenance of statutory records
    • Assisting with the preparation of the quarterly Board Meeting information packs
    • Minutes of Board Meetings
    • Ensure compliance with corporate governance standards and internal delegations of authority
    • Assist with shareholder matters and company secretarial coordination
  • Compliance Framework & Policies
    • Develop, implement and maintain compliance policies and procedures
    • Conduct compliance monitoring and internal reviews within the SA operations
    • Provide basic training to staff on legal, regulatory and ethical requirements
  • Property & Operational Legal Support
    • Provide legal support on property acquisitions, disposals, leases and development projects
    • Advise on hospitality-specific regulatory matters, including licensing, health & safety and operational compliance
    • Assist operational teams with incident management, claims and regulatory inspections
  • Insurance & Claims
    • Assist in liaising with insurance brokers, to ensure adequate protection
    • Manage and coordinate insurance claims
Qualifications
  • LLB degree or relevant legal qualification.
  • Admitted Attorney advantageous but not essential.
  • 3-6 years' experience in a legal, compliance, or commercial advisory role.
  • Experience with contract drafting, review, and negotiation.
  • Knowledge of South African corporate governance and regulatory frameworks.
  • Familiarity with legislation and regulatory bodies such as CIPC, Department of Employment and Labour, and the Information Regulator.
  • Experience working with or managing external legal counsel.
  • Strong understanding of legal risk management and compliance processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong administrative skills, with the ability to manage large volumes of documentation
