OceanHub Africa (OHA) is seeking a Lighthouse Operations Intern to support the coordination and delivery backbone of 1000 Ocean Startups (1000OS) - the world's largest global ocean innovation network.

This role offers hands on experience in community operations, stakeholder coordination, and global ocean action, with a strong focus on supporting the launch of the 1000OS Africa Regional Community ahead of the Our Ocean Conference 2026.

Position: Lighthouse Operations Intern
Location: Cape Town (preferred, with some remote flexibility)
Start Date: January 2026
Contract: 6 months
Compensation: ZAR 10,000 (CTC)

Key responsibilities include:
  • Supporting the Community Workstream and its governance processes
  • Coordinating operational activities across the Lighthouse Team
  • Assisting with the planning and delivery of the 1000OS Africa regional launch
  • Tracking community engagement and workflows using Airtable
  • Supporting stakeholder engagement, materials development, and reporting
The ideal candidate:
  • Holds a bachelor's degree in public policy, international relations, environmental studies, business studies, or a related field
  • Demonstrates strong coordination, research, and organisational skills
  • Has working knowledge of Airtable
  • Can synthesise information into clear, professional communications
  • Is motivated by impact driven work related to sustainability and ocean solutions

1000OS is hosted under the World Economic Forum's Ocean Action Agenda and brings together a global, member driven coalition advancing real-world ocean solutions. OceanHub Africa is a founding member and operates the coalition through its Lighthouse Team.
