Description

For more than 20 years, Globeleq has been a long-term investor, developer, owner and operator of diversified power projects in Africa, where the company is one of the largest Independent Power Producers.

With nearly 1500MW of generation capacity in operation across 16 power plants in 7 countries, 488MW of new power projects in construction and >2,000MW in development, Globeleq is one of the largest independent power producers solely focused in Africa. Globeleq is 70% owned by British International Investment and 30% by Norfund, the development finance institutions of the UK and Norway, and has a proven track record for supporting the ongoing development of the African power sector.

Globeleq's various generation technologies include gas, wind, solar PV, battery energy storage (BESS), hydro and geothermal. Globeleq is strengthening its cyber security and networking capabilities to address growing operational demands, regulatory compliance requirements, and the evolving cyber threat landscape. The IT Graduate will provide dedicated support in both cyber security operations and network management, helping to relieve workload pressures on senior engineers while building long-term internal capability. This role offers structured mentorship, hands on exposure to security and infrastructure tasks, and professional development opportunities in one of South Africa's most critical skills areas.

Key Responsibilities Cyber Security
  • Assist with SIEM monitoring and alert triage.
  • Support vulnerability scans and remediation tracking on ENCORE.
  • Help implement security controls (e.g., MFA, conditional access policies).
  • Participate in incident response activities.
  • Contribute to user cybersecurity awareness initiatives.
Networking
  • Support troubleshooting of network issues.
  • Assist with firewall rule maintenance and updates.
  • Monitor network performance and traffic.
  • Document configurations and contribute to standardisation efforts.
  • Help deploy and maintain network devices, including VPN and hybrid cloud environments.
Skills / Competencies

Experience, Knowledge & Qualifications
  • Recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Certification in CompTIA Network+ and Security+ or equivalent qualifications.
  • Interest in cyber security, networking, and infrastructure management.
  • Familiarity with SIEM tools, vulnerability management, or networking concepts is advantageous.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Prior internship or project experience in IT, networking, or cyber security is desirable but not required.
