Location: Kununurra and/or Halls Creek

Unit/Division: WA Country Health Service - WACHS - Kimberley

Work Type: Fixed Term - Full Time, Permanent - Full Time, Casual

This is for Permanent, Fixed Term and Casual appointments at 76 hours per fortnight with the possibility of an extension and/or permanency.

This is a pool recruitment and there are currently 3.0 FTE available for immediate filling.

This is an "open-ended" recruitment pool, and as such the following should be noted:

  • The panel will monitorthis recruitment pool for applications, and will assess on aregular basis.
  • Suitable applicants willbe placed in a pool from which appointments may be made whensimilar vacancies occur.
  • Appointments may be madefrom this pool until 31/12/2026.

To be successful, you willhave

  • Eligible for registrationin the category of Registered Nurse by the Nursing andMidwifery Board of Australia.
  • Demonstrated ability toapply recovery approaches when working with individuals,families and communities affected by mental healthconditions.
  • Exhibits advancedcommunity mental health nursing skills in working withindividuals with complex mental health conditions, includingmental state assessment, risk assessments, crisis intervention,and care coordination.
  • Extensive and recentexperience in community-based mental health nursingpractice.
  • Demonstrated ability towork alone and within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Highly developedinterpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, withthe ability to engage effectively with Aboriginal consumers,their families, and other stakeholders accessing mental healthservices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge ofmedications used, and experience in the dispensing andadministering of medications used in the treatment of mentalhealth disorders.
  • Current knowledge oflegislative obligations in relation to the WA Mental Health Act2014.
  • Working knowledge ofcomputer use and information systems relevant to theposition.
  • Current C Class driversLicence and an ability and willingness to travel includingovernight stays away from home.
Position Profile

Provides advanced community mental healthservices to clients of the KMHDS which is based on best practice.Provides a service, which is culturally secure and takes intoaccount the emotional, social and spiritual well-being of clients.Conducts Mental Health and/or drug and alcohol (AOD) Triage, acuteinitial assessments, Risk Assessments crisis intervention, caremanagement planning and implementation of care plan and referralservices to clients and their carer/s.

The Country Nursing & Midwifery incentiveprogram is available to new and existing nurses and midwives -across a broad range of patient-facing roles - on fixed term orpermanent contracts at eligible locations. Eligible nurses andmidwives can receive between $5,000 and $17,000 in support over 12months. WACHS Kimberley is the most northern healthregion of WACHS. The Kimberley region has approximately 200Aboriginal communities, over 34 different Aboriginal languagegroups and 45 percent of the population are Aboriginal and/orTorres Strait Islander people. WACHS Kimberley consists of sixhospitals, an inpatient mental health unit, three CommunityDirectorates and a Corporate Office. WACHS Kimberley provideshospital, community health, public health, remote area health,community aged care, and mental health services across the regionthrough a dedicated team of medical, nursing, Aboriginal health,allied health, and support staff.
