Red Ember Recruitment is recruiting for Payroll Consultant on a temporary basis for our client in Cape Town.
Requirements- Alignment with the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA), including working hours, shift patterns, overtime, and leave provisions
- Compliance with the Labour Relations Act (LRA) where applicable to payroll practices
- Verification of PAYE calculations in line with the Income Tax Act
- Review of all statutory submissions and compliance requirements with SARS (EMP201, EMP501, IRP5s)
- UIF and SDL contribution accuracy and compliance
2. Payroll Processing and Controls
- Review of payroll processes, controls, and approval structures
- Payroll reconciliation processes (payroll to bank and general ledger)
- Accuracy of earnings, deductions, and net pay calculations
- Review of onboarding, terminations, and payroll changes
- Review of earnings and deduction codes
- Validation of tax and statutory configurations
- Leave, overtime, and benefit configuration within the system
- Assessment of reporting accuracy and system utilisation
4. Overtime and Working Hours Compliance
- Verification of overtime calculations and applicable rates
- Correct computation of reduced working hours and the impact on leave and sick leave
- Compliance with BCEA overtime limits
- Treatment of Sunday and public holiday work
- Review of pay simulations and calculation accuracy
- Alignment between timesheets/rosters and payroll
5. Leave Management
- Annual leave accruals and balances
- Sick leave cycles and compliance
- Family responsibility and maternity leave handling
- Alignment between policy, system configuration, and payroll outcomes
6. Employee Benefits and Deductions
- Medical aid, retirement funds, and group risk deductions and contributions
- Third-party payment reconciliations
- Verification of authorised and compliant deductions
7. Data Integrity and Masterfile Management
- Accuracy and completeness of employee master data
- Controls over changes to payroll information
- Review of banking detail controls and audit trails
8. Reporting and Reconciliations
- Monthly payroll and statutory reconciliation's
- SARS submission alignment and accuracy
9. Risk and Fraud Assessment
- Identification of potential payroll fraud risks, including ghost employees
- System access controls and permissions
- Review of manual overrides and control weaknesses
10. Process Efficiency and Retooling
- Identification of inefficiencies and process gaps
- Recommendations for automation and improved workflows
- Development of practical, implementable solutions
- Establishment or refinement of standard operating procedures
