About the roleThe Technical Sales Engineer plays a critical role in driving revenue growth by combining advanced technical expertise with strong customer-facing and solution-selling skills. This role focuses on delivering accurate, competitive Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) solutions while building long term, trusted partnerships with customers across the African market.
You will be responsible for translating complex customer requirements into technically sound, value-driven solutions-supporting Solar MD 's mission to deliver reliable, innovative, and industry-leading energy storage systems.

- Revenue Growth Through Technical Solution Selling: Achieve sales targets by converting complex technical needs into tailored, value-driven solutions.
- High Customer Competence: Enable customers, installers, and partners through structured technical training, onboarding, and ongoing support.
- Analyze customer load profiles, site conditions, and project requirements to size BESS solutions accurately.
- Provide expert recommendations on battery configuration, inverter pairing, protection requirements, and system architecture.
- Present technical solutions clearly, including ROI calculations, system benefits, and performance expectations.
- Convert technical proposals into sales using value based selling and effective negotiation.
- Prepare quotes, proposals, tenders, and solution packages.
- Identify upselling and cross selling opportunities to increase revenue per client.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with EPCs, installers, distributors, and strategic partners.
- Support clients throughout the full sales lifecycle.
- Conduct follow ups, technical meetings, and site visits as required.
- Relay customer feedback to Engineering and R&D teams to support product improvements.
- Work closely with Operations and Logistics to ensure smooth project handovers.
- Participate in internal technical and commercial reviews.
- Conduct customer and partner technical training sessions and workshops.
- Develop training materials, guides, presentations, and technical documentation.
- Support marketing events with technical expertise and content.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field (preferred).
- Strong technical knowledge of BESS, EMS/BMS, and power electronics.
- Proficiency in system sizing tools and load analysis.
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
- Strong presentation, negotiation, and solution-selling skills.
- Experience preparing technical proposals and tenders.
- Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Cultural competence and adaptability to work across diverse African markets.
- Willingness to travel within the African region.
- Fluency in English; additional African languages are an advantage.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in technical sales or business development.
- At least 2 years in a managerial or senior technical sales role.
- Proven experience working with EPCs, installers, and distributors.
