Technical Designer

We are looking for a dedicated and innovative individual to join our team as a Technical Designer. The role will report to the Drawing Office Manager and will be based from our offices in Spartan, Kempton Park.
Purpose of the role: Develop and design products, equipment and tools to produce products that meet high quality requirements and performance standards. Analyze equipment specifications and process requirements to conceive practical designs. Generate production drawings and specifications for purchasing and fabrication purposes.
Responsibilities- Review product development requirements for compatibility with methods to determine cost and schedules.
- Integrate equipment and material capabilities to meet module target specifications and technology target specifications.
- Hand over method/process and equipment to production.
- Utilize CAD (Computer Aided Design) or CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) systems to model new designs and produce detailed engineering drawings.
- Specify precise new product functional requirements; design, test and integrate components to produce final designs; evaluate the design's overall effectiveness, cost, reliability and safety.
- Design, develop, execute and evaluate fitness for use testing, product specifications and process validation plans; create and review material part specifications and bills of materials.
- Collaborate with internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers and product.
- Ensure compliance with established industry safety and design standards and guidelines.
- Generate mass estimates of products for tender proposals.
- Generate technical data packs for jobs on time, containing detailed drawings and engineering bill of materials (EBOM).
- Ensure all tolerances, machining, welding, material treatment etc. specifications are specified.
- Travel and meet with customers when needed; take measurements on site.
- Ensure all work conforms to the required in house modeling and detailing standards.
- Check drawings and BOMs to eliminate NCRs.
- Generate new in house technical standards and training material.
- Suggest product improvements in terms of quality, pricing and performance.
- Assist other departments when needed (e.g., accompany site visits, support engineering group with CAD models for FEA).
- Consult with Lead Designer and Design Office Manager on new or changed designs before processing as jobs.
- Maintain an accurate electronic drawing office file structure of jobs for as built management and full traceability.
- Support ETO and R&D resources across teams on a case by case basis.
- Work in a primarily office based environment; remote work limited.
- N6 in mechanical engineering qualification or higher.
- 6+ years of 3D CAD modelling and drafting experience in sheet metal fabrication industries including welding specifications.
- Proficiency in Siemens NX or SolidEdge preferred.
- Maintain effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work responsibilities or environment; adjust to new work structures, processes, requirements or cultures.

- Communicate clearly and succinctly to individuals and groups; convey information and ideas in a focused and compelling way.
