Freelance Patternmaker & Sample Maker Needed — Women's Linen Apparel Collection (7 Styles)
Remote
2026-07-31T00:00:00.000Z
Position Details
I'm launching a premium, organic linen clothing line, and I'm looking for an experienced freelance patternmaker/sample maker to help bring my first 7-piece collection to life.
I have clear, detailed design direction for each piece (including reference photos, silhouette specifications, fabric weight targets, and a defined color palette) but I'm not a trained designer or patternmaker myself. I'm also new to this process overall, so I'll likely need patient guidance on industry terms, next steps, and decisions along the way, not just technical execution. I'm looking for someone who enjoys working with first-time founders and communicates clearly, not just someone who expects a fully hands-off client.
Scope of work:
Develop patterns for 7 women's apparel styles: a button-down shirt, a tank top, a knee-length dress, a skirt, wide-leg trousers, a jumpsuit, and a tailored jacket
Create a muslin/mock-up for fit approval before cutting into real fabric
Grade each pattern across a full size range (please confirm this is part of your process)
Sew a finished sample in linen for final review (I can provide fabric or source based on your recommendation)
Light input on appropriate linen weight (GSM) per garment is a bonus, though I already have target ranges researched
What I'll provide:
Detailed design briefs per style (silhouette specs, fit notes, reference photos, fabric weight targets, palette)
My measurements/sizing for a base sample size
Clear, responsive communication throughout
How I'd like to start:
Rather than committing to all 7 styles right away, I'd like to begin with a paid trial on 1–2 pieces to make sure we're a good fit working together, then continue with the rest of the collection if it goes well.
In your proposal, please include:
Examples of past patternmaking/sample work for women's ready-to-wear specifically (actual flats or finished garments, not illustration)
Whether pattern grading/size chart development is part of your standard process, and whether physical sample sewing is included or handled by a teammate
Your typical rate structure (per style, hourly, or flat project fee)
Roughly how long a pattern + muslin + sample takes you per garment, and your current availability/bandwidth
Are you comfortable working with a first-time founder who may need extra explanation or guidance along the way, rather than someone who already knows the industry?
