Senior Rock Engineer

A large consulting company with offices internationally and across South Africa is looking for a Senior Rock Engineer to join their growing team in Johannesburg.

• Degree in Rock Mechanics, Engineering, Mining Engineering, Engineering Geology or Geotechnical Engineering
• MSc advantageous
• Registered as Professional Engineer
• 15+ years' experience either as a consultant or working for a mining company in rock engineering
• Open pit mine and/or underground investigation and/or design experience a must
• Understanding of African clients in the mining industry

• Working predominately on projects concerned with rock mechanics, including support and mine design.
• Open pit mine investigation and design.
• Collation and analysis of geotechnical data.
• Geotechnical report writing.
• Provide technical expertise on mining projects concerned with soft and hard rock engineering, such as strata control and mine design.
• Manage consultancy project within open pit and underground rock engineering.
• Provide technical and project management expertise in research, instrumentation, stress measurement, monitoring, numerical modelling, risk management, underground safety audits, design methods, training and technology transfer.
• Develop new business and build upon existing and prospective client relations within the Business Unit.
• Develop techniques and methods for solving rock engineering problems within the mines, often conducting site visits to resolve these issues.
• Ensure compliance with HSSE procedures and protocols.
• Manage drilling contractors.
• Provide on site supervisory role for geotechnical investigation projects for open pit mines.
• Continually develop key skills in Project Management.
• Deliver quality work on time and within budget.
