Job Description
Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd seeks a dynamic and strategic Senior Manager - Business Development (Generation) to lead the identification, evaluation, and execution of new business opportunities within the power generation portfolio. This senior leadership role will drive growth initiatives, partnerships, and innovative frameworks that align with Eskoms long term strategic objectives to expand generation capacity, enhance operational performance, and support sustainable energy transitions. The successful candidate will be a visionary leader with deep industry knowledge and the ability to influence cross functional teams and external stakeholders.
Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement a comprehensive business development strategy for the Generation division to support Eskoms growth ambitions.
Identify, evaluate, and prioritize new market opportunities, strategic partnerships, and investment prospects in generation technologies (including renewable, thermal, and emerging technologies).
Lead feasibility assessments, business case development, financial modeling, and risk analysis for proposed projects and initiatives.
Engage with government entities, regulatory bodies, industry partners, and potential investors to negotiate agreements and secure opportunities.
Collaborate with Technical, Commercial, Legal, and Finance teams to ensure successful execution and commercialization of projects.
Monitor market trends, competitive landscape, policy changes, and regulatory environments that impact generation business prospects.
Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to a multidisciplinary business development team.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives and establish KPIs to measure performance and outcomes of business development activities.
Bachelors degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or related field. A Masters degree or MBA is strongly preferred.
Professional certification in project management, financial analysis, or energy sector specialization is an advantage.
Proven expertise in power generation markets, energy policy, and utility business models.
Strong command of financial modeling, valuation techniques, and commercial negotiation.
Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate diverse teams in complex project environments.
Minimum of years of progressive experience in business development, strategy, or commercial leadership roles within the energy or utilities sector.
At least 5 years in a senior managerial position with accountability for strategic planning, deal execution, and business growth.
Track record of successfully driving complex energy projects from concept through execution, including partnerships, funding structures, and regulatory engagement.
Prior exposure to international energy markets, public private partnerships, and renewable energy frameworks is desirable.
Full time role, typically 40 hours per week.
Flexibility required for special projects, travel, stakeholder engagements, and extended hours when critical deadlines demand.
Strategic thinker with excellent analytical and problem solving capabilities.
High proficiency in business case development, feasibility studies, and financial evaluation.
Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence senior executives and external partners.
