Job Description
Job Purpose: The objective is to fill the position of Mathematics lecturer in the Intermediate Phase (IP) Department with a staff member with expertise in this area. The position is based at the Wellington Campus where tuition is in Afrikaans. Candidates must be able to teach in Afrikaans.
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities- Teaching Mathematics in the Intermediate and Foundation Phase departments.
- Curriculum development and other learning materials.
- Supervising students on teaching practice.
- Competence in the pedagogy of technology integration in learning, teaching, and assessment.
- Research and involvement in research activities (publications and supervision).
- Academic administration and development.
- Assessment and quality assurance.
- Networking with schools and other networks.
- Coaching and mentoring of students and staff.
- Learner focus and learner support in multilingual classrooms.
- Meticulous planning and organising skills.
- Perform other functions as may be assigned by the head of department.
- Expert subject knowledge in Mathematics.
- Excellent teaching skills.
- Excelling communication skills (written and verbal).
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Academic management skills.
- Strong learner focus, mentoring and support for learners (and staff).
- Good administrative and organisational skills.
- Continuous learning and professional development.
- A relevant Doctoral degree in Mathematics Education.
- A teaching qualification.
- Mathematics as a major subject or an equivalent and relevant qualification at the undergraduate level.
- Four (4) years relevant lecturing experience at tertiary level.
- Publications in accredited and peer-reviewed journals over the last five (5) years (nationally and/or internationally).
- Post graduate students supervised to completion relevant to the Education field (preferably in the field of Intermediate Phase).
- Experience in curriculum development.
- Specialized knowledge of Methodologies of teaching Mathematics.
- A relevant Master's degree in Mathematics Education.
- At least two (2) years' relevant lecturing experience at tertiary level or five years' relevant teaching experience at school level.
- Evidence of research output and supervision.
- School teaching experience preferably in Intermediate Phase.
