Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Scaffolding Erector based in Cape Town. This role requires hands on experience erecting and dismantling scaffolding in industrial or petrochemical environments. You must also be willing to assist other teams with general labour tasks when needed. Immediate start available.

Note: This role may assist other departments or perform general labor tasks according to business needs to support sustainability and overall profitability.

Main Purpose

Erect, modify, and dismantle scaffolding structures in compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and project specifications. Provide safe access and working platforms for construction and maintenance activities in petrochemical and industrial environments. Support other teams by performing general labor tasks when required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Erect, alter, and dismantle scaffolding structures according to approved drawings and instructions
  • Conduct visual inspections of scaffolds for stability and safety before use
  • Select, handle, and maintain scaffolding materials and equipment properly
  • Work safely at heights and in confined spaces according to site rules
  • Adhere to tagging systems, quality control, and HSE requirements
  • Maintain housekeeping in scaffolding and work areas
  • Report defects, unsafe practices, or incidents to the supervisor immediately
  • Coordinate scaffold erection activities with other site operations
  • Assist other departments or teams as a general worker when required
Qualifications Formal Qualifications:
  • Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
  • Formal scaffolding erection training/certification (MERSETA/CETA/SAQA or equivalent) preferred
On-the-Job Training / Certifications:
  • Permit-to-Work Systems
  • Working at Heights certificate
  • Confined Space Entry certificate
Licenses:
  • Valid driver's license
Experience Functional Experience:
  • Minimum 2 years' scaffolding erection experience in petrochemical, oil & gas, or heavy industrial sectors
Cross-Functional Experience:
  • Coordinate with construction, mechanical, and HSE teams
Industry Experience:
  • Petrochemical, fuel terminal, or high risk industrial environments preferred
Knowledge
  • Scaffold erection and dismantling techniques
  • Scaffold safety checks and tagging procedures
  • Safe handling and inspection of scaffolding materials
  • SHEQ protocols and site specific safety procedures
  • High risk site awareness, including work at height and confined spaces
  • Coordination with other trades and general labour support
Skills
  • Ability to read and follow technical instructions and scaffold drawings
  • Strong awareness of safety hazards and risk management
  • Teamwork and communication skills
  • Problem solving for scaffold setup challenges
  • Time management and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to perform general labor tasks when required
