Our mine, situated in the Limpopo Province about 60 kilometers from Lydenburg and 40 kilometers from Burgersfort, is a world class producer of Chrome Ore.
The successful applicant will report to the Rock Engineer or nominee.
Minimum Educational Requirements- Grade 12 / Standard 10 Certificate with Mathematics & Science
- Certificate in Strata Control
- Accreditation and Registration: SANIRE (SA National Institution of Rock Engineers)
- Code 08 (B) Driver's Licence
- Advantageous: Accreditation and Registration: ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa)
- Advantageous: Membership: SAIMM (SA Institute of Mining & Metallurgy)
- Advantageous: Membership: GSSA (Geological Society of South Africa)
- 5 years practical underground experience of which 1 year in Rock Mechanics in a hard rock/metalliferous mine
- Advantageous: 1 year Supervisory experience
- Design, approve and revise suitable mining layouts and support according to rock engineering principles and prevailing conditions.
- Participate in designing mine layouts and mining sequence/ratio. Data gathering and analysis (core logging, underground mapping, and material properties). Revise/compile relevant MOP's / SOP's. Ensure accuracy of design techniques. Advise on pillar design and extraction sequence.
- Continuous investigation of underground conditions toward recommending remedial action/projects to address potential risk. Continuously investigate the possible improvement of support systems. Drive improvement projects, investigate and conduct feasibility studies to keep abreast with developments within the specialist field.
- Manage and coordinate rock related accident/incident investigations to ensure detailed, timely completion thereof. Compile investigation reports and submit/present to relevant stakeholders along with detailed findings and recommendations.
- Perform Issue Based Risk Assessment as and when required. Hazard identification.
- Daily: Routine assessment of ground condition. Communication with Production line managers and specialists, e.g., geologists, surveyors, ventilation, safety officers, etc. Informing subordinates. Weekly: Compilation of Weekly Rock Engineering Report. Monthly: Compilation of Monthly Rock Engineering Report. Monthly pre planning, weekly special area meetings.
