Job Description

Professor / Associate Professor & Head of Department

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in either Clinical Technology, Medical Laboratory or any relevant Health Discipline and a minimum of 10 years' teaching experience
  • Sustained research track record of publications in accredited journals
  • Track record of supervision of postgraduates and leadership of research group(s)
  • Sustained track record of external funding
  • Evidence of collaborative linkages
  • Evidence of external engagement
  • Good communication and lecturing skills
  • A strong passion for teaching and research
  • Registration with HPCSA or a relevant regulatory body

Summary of Duties:

  • Teach subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Supervise postgraduate projects and postgraduate students
  • Develop learning material for different courses
  • Actively participate in research and research activities
  • Participate in Work Integrated Learning (WIL) and industrial projects
  • Use online learning software such as Moodle, Blackboard, Teams
  • Engage in community engagement projects
  • Assist with administrative duties as delegated by the Head of Department
  • Perform any other duties as prescribed by the Head of Department
Associate Professor

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in either Clinical Technology, Medical Laboratory or any relevant Health Discipline and a minimum of 7 years' teaching experience
  • Evidence of a publication track record in peer reviewed journals
  • Evidence of completed postgraduate supervision
  • Track record of external funding
  • Good communication and lecturing skills
  • A strong passion for teaching and research
  • Professional registration with HPCSA

Head of Department

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in the relevant discipline
  • Five years' experience in higher education and academic leadership
  • Demonstrated scholarship leadership and scholarship

Summary of Duties:

  • Deal with student queries and complaints regarding the department and programmes
  • Allocate resources and manage staff leave and distribution
  • Enhance staff relations and build a student centred department team
  • Attend to matters such as study leave, grievances, disputes, training and development
  • Recruit and supervise part time and replacement staff, and oversee programmes and projects
  • Lead faculty projects and postgraduate recruitment, supervision, orientation and graduation processes
  • Provide leadership to the department in teaching, learning and research
