Platform Engineering Lead - Vendor & Portfolio Delivery
Job Description
Location: ZA, GP, Johannesburg, 30 Baker Street
To shape, plan and lead portfolio delivery by providing expert engineering leadership, directing system capabilities, priorities and resources to ensure solutions are developed and maintained in line with agreed standards and practices. The role has a primary focus on managing third-party software suppliers responsible for delivering, supporting and evolving key platforms, with accountability for vendor performance, service quality, governance, commercial oversight and roadmap alignment. In parallel, the incumbent leads the internal support teams aligned to these platforms, building the capacity, capability and competencies required to govern suppliers effectively and sustain reliable service delivery across the engineering function.
Technology Capabilities
The incumbent should have a sound understanding of modern software development, platform engineering and delivery practices, with the ability to lead, challenge and guide teams and third-party suppliers across the technology landscape. While deep hands-on expertise in each technology is not required, the role requires sufficient technical breadth and credibility to oversee solution delivery, support decision-making, and manage teams working across the capabilities below.

- 8-10 years - Proven ability to work effectively as both a team leader and as a member of a small team of technical staff working in an agile development environment. Track record in capability and competency building and coaching of staff is required. Minimum 3-5 years' experience as a senior manager running a portfolio of 10+ technical experts.
- More than 10 years - Come from a background of full lifecycle design and development covering solution design, application design, development, testing and maintenance, network software, operating systems, multi-tier environments, desktop and workgroup software, middleware, server technology, fault tolerant environments, development tools. Broad experience of application development methodologies, data base methodology, programming languages, data base concepts and IT infrastructure and operations.
- More than 10 years - Proven track record to a broad spectrum of stakeholders including senior executives. Knowledge of Agile and Lean frameworks, methods and practices and experience in being a catalyst for organisational change. Experience working with cross-functional teams fostering collaboration and team work. Exposure to broad business and financial management type experience, specifically within the banking sector. Good understanding of the Standard Bank IT environment
