Operations Manager
Job Description
Our client is seeking an Operations Manager to translate divisional strategy into disciplined, high-quality operational execution across multiple sites or contracts. This role carries regional or contract-level P&L accountability and is responsible for ensuring service delivery is safe, compliant, efficient, and profitable, while driving continuous improvement, team performance, and client satisfaction. In mining environments, the role ensures full compliance with Botswana's mining, safety, and environmental regulations, safeguarding the organisation's licence to operate.
Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership & Execution- Lead and manage day-to-day operational performance across all contracts.
- Translate divisional and regional strategies into clear operational plans, schedules, and performance targets.
- Ensure compliance with contractual SLAs, KPIs, internal SOPs, and all applicable statutory requirements.
- Monitor operational performance (daily, weekly, monthly), identifying risks, trends, and improvement opportunities.
- Drive standardisation, consistency, and operational discipline across sites.
- Manage operational disruptions, service failures, and emergencies, implementing corrective and preventative actions.
- Ensure infrastructure, fleet, and facilities are maintained in a safe, compliant, and operationally ready state.
- Hold full P&L accountability for assigned contracts within approved budgets and strategic parameters.
- Review, challenge, and consolidate budgets, forecasts, and financial performance.
- Deliver on revenue, margin, cost, and cash flow targets.
- Actively manage key cost drivers, including fuel, fleet maintenance, tyres, labour, overtime, contractors, and compliance costs.
- Ensure accurate invoicing, revenue verification, cost recovery, and working capital management.
- Support tenders, renewals, pricing reviews, and scope changes with operational and cost input.
- Build a high-performance, accountable, and safety-driven culture aligned with company values.
- Ensure appropriate organisational structures, staffing levels, and succession planning.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, and career development.
- Manage workforce planning, shift structures, fatigue management, and overtime control.
- Partner with Human Capital on labour relations, disciplinary processes, union engagement, and workforce stability.
- Ensure full implementation and adherence to SHERQ systems and safe operating practices.
- Promote a safety-first mindset in all operational decisions and activities.
- Monitor safety performance, including incidents, near misses, and vehicle-related events.
- Ensure proper incident reporting, investigation, root cause analysis, and closure of corrective actions.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate operational, health, safety, environmental, and reputational risks.
- Ensure regular safety communication, toolbox talks, audits, and mandatory training.
- Ensure compliance with the Minerals (Prospecting and Mining) Act and Mine Health and Safety Regulations.
- Implement safe systems of work for heavy mobile equipment, traffic management, and fatigue control.
- Maintain readiness for mine inspections, exercise stop-work authority where required, and close statutory findings promptly.
- Ensure environmental compliance in line with Environmental Clearance Certificate and Environmental Management Plan requirements.
- Act as the senior operational interface with clients, ensuring service delivery meets or exceeds expectations.
- Support Contract Managers in managing escalations, service failures, and disputes.
- Participate in performance reviews, governance meetings, and operational forums.
- Identify improvement opportunities and elevate potential extensions or value-added services.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, systems, and delegated authorities.
- Adhere to all relevant labour, transport, environmental, safety, and contractual legislation.
- Maintain strong operational controls, documentation standards, and audit readiness.
- Ensure audit findings (internal, client, and statutory) are addressed effectively and sustainably.
- Provide accurate and timely operational, financial, safety, and compliance reporting.
- Degree or Diploma in Operations Management, Mining Engineering, or a related field (management qualification advantageous).
- Proven experience managing multi-site or multi-contract operations with full P&L accountability.
- Strong exposure to safety systems, SHERQ governance, and incident management.
- Working knowledge of mining safety and environmental requirements in Botswana, where applicable.
