Mechanical Resident Engineer - Building Services

BVi Consulting Engineers (Pty) Ltd has a vacancy for a Mechanical Resident Engineer in their Cape Town office. This will be a contract position for 24 months.

Experienced Mechanical Resident Engineer responsible for supervising on site mechanical works, ensuring compliance with design specifications, quality standards, and project timelines. Proficient at coordinating multidisciplinary teams, managing contractors, and delivering projects safely and efficiently.

• Supervise installation of mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, piping, and fire protection
• Ensure all works comply with approved drawings, specifications, and applicable codes
• Review and approve shop drawings, method statements, and material submittals
• Conduct routine site inspections and enforce quality control procedures
• Monitor contractor performance and progress against project schedulesCoordinate with civil, electrical, and architectural teams to resolve interface issues
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports
• Verify work completed for contractor payment certifications
• Manage and evaluate variation orders and technical queries (RFIs)
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards
• Supervise testing, commissioning, and system handover processes
• Review as-built drawings and operation & maintenance manuals

• B-Tech/BEng Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Professional registration with ECSA will be added advantage
• 5-10+ years of experience in complex construction or engineering projects
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems (HVAC installation, Wet services, Lifts and Fire protection) in the built environment and SANS standards
