Job Description Senior Underground Mine Planner - Africa & Middle EastBarrick, Africa & Middle East Region are seeking to recruit a Senior Underground Mine Planner - AME.
The Senior Underground Mine Planner will lead and develop planning capability across the region to deliver safe, practical, and optimised mine plans. The incumbent will support operational performance and strategic decision-making through continuous improvement, robust analysis, and effective planning processes.
Responsibilities Oversee long to medium term planning- Lead the development and delivery of accurate, practical, and optimised mine plans.
- Drive scenario planning to enhance flexibility and manage operational risk.
- Ensure site operations align with plans and that planning standards are applied consistently across all sites.
- Monitor site activities to validate plan execution and inform future planning.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen planning processes and flexible mine plans that adapt to changing operational needs.
- Provide data-driven input into planning and budgeting processes.
- Ensure mine schedules reflect realistic productivity assumptions and align with operational capabilities to achieve consistent and sustainable production outcomes.
- Evaluate costs and schedules, recommending improvements and cost savings.
- Prepare project mine plans as required, supporting reserve and plan sign-off processes.
- Contribute to strategic decisions through analysis, modelling and due diligence.
- Evaluate external projects or opportunities
- Collaborate effectively across disciplines and levels to drive alignment and informed decision-making.
- Support the growth and development of the planning teams, providing guidance, mentoring and training across the sites.
- Enhance team capabilities whilst fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering
- 10+ years of Mining Engineering experience.
- Advanced ability to use underground planning software (preferably Deswik) and mine optimisation software.
- Experience in developing and implementing planning processes and systems.
- Ability to create mine designs, mine schedules, across long, medium and short terms.
- Experience completing mining and infrastructure related trade-offs.
- An understanding of mining equipment and productivities.
- Demonstrated understanding of engineering theories and principles.
- Strong presentation, oratory, and verbal skills.
- Able to communicate ideas and recommendations to team members in a clear manner.
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization, including executives.
- Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
- Able to create alternative solutions to problems.
- Excellent time management and project management skills.
- High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
- Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.
- Effective leadership skills required.
