Lecturer/Junior Lecturer: Mathematics and Mathematics Didactics (6-month contract)
Job Description
Applications are invited to teach in the field of Mathematics in the Foundation Phase and Early Childhood Development at the Wellington campus.
PLEASE NOTE that this position is based at the Wellington Campus where tuition is in Afrikaans. Candidates must be able to teach in Afrikaans.
Minimum Requirements: Lecturer- A Master's degree relevant to the field of Mathematics and Mathematics Didactics, to teach in the Foundation Phase and Early Childhood Development at the Wellington campus
- Mathematics Didactics at undergraduate level
- At least five years' relevant teaching experience at primary school level or two years relevant lecturing experience at tertiary level
- Learning support for and in multilingual classrooms
- Ability to teach through the medium of Afrikaans
- Relevant research output
- An Honours degree relevant to the field of Mathematics and Mathematics Didactics, to teach in the Foundation Phase and Early Childhood Development at the Wellington campus
- Mathematics Didactics at undergraduate level
- At least five years' relevant teaching experience at primary school level or two years relevant lecturing experience at tertiary level
- Learning support for and in multilingual classrooms
- Ability to teach through the medium of Afrikaans
- Teaching Mathematics and Mathematics Didactics in the Foundation Phase department
- Curriculum development and other learning materials
- Supervising students on teaching practice
- Competence in the pedagogy of technology integration in learning, teaching, and assessment
- Research and involvement in research activities (publications and supervision)
- Academic administration and development
- Assessment and quality assurance
- Networking with schools and other networks
- Coaching and mentoring of students and staff
- Learner focus and learner support in multilingual classrooms
- Ability to align yourself to hybrid teaching and learning models (face-to-face and online learning)
- Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department
- Excellent teaching skills
- Good communication skills in English and Afrikaans
- Sound administrative and technical skills
- Knowledge of education policies (including CAPS)
- Mentoring and support of students
- Student-focused learning and teaching
- Teamwork and collaboration
- Good work ethics and ability to manage work
- Planning and organising skills
