The Johannesburg Business School (JBS) is a young and dynamic business school of UJ. The JBS supports the vision and objectives of UJ and therefore focuses on sustainability and societal impact as well as technologies of the future, specifically through a focus on Digital Transformation in all curricula and offerings. JBS delivers its PGDip and MBA as both face to face and online. A DPhil programme is also offered with a focus on Digital Transformation. Academics in JBS have the opportunity to grow and develop in their academic career through teaching and research.
Job Purpose:
To lead the teaching and research on Digital Transformation towards the fulfilment of the mission of JBS.
Responsibilities:Teaching and Learning
- Develop and deliver well designed modules that enhance student success and learning outcomes.
- Lead and participate in the development and revision of learning materials and curricula.
- Integrate Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) principles into course design and delivery.
- Ensure compliance with institutional tuition policies and academic procedures.
- Set and/or oversee assignments and examination papers in line with quality standards.
- Manage external moderation processes and ensure academic integrity of assessments.
- Mark and moderate assessments within prescribed timeframes.
- Design and implement student retention strategies to reduce drop out rates.
- Supervise postgraduate students to successful completion.
Research and Innovation
- Produce accredited research outputs (journal articles, book chapters, books, conference proceedings) and contribute thought leadership pieces on 4IR in mainstream platforms.
- Secure research funding through grant applications and funded projects.
- Establish and maintain international collaborations to enhance curriculum development, research impact, and institutional reputation.
Strategic and Operational Academic Leadership
- Initiate and drive innovative practices in teaching, learning, and research.
- Serve actively on institutional and faculty committees.
- Mentor and support academic colleagues within the discipline.
- A relevant Master's degree in digital transformation with a focus on Leadership, Organisational Development, Strategy or equivalent.
- Supervision, research, publications, and teaching experience on digital transformation or related topics.
- Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SME) experience (i.e., working in, or consulting with SMEs).
- Teaching experience in MBA/PGDip.
- A relevant Doctorate Degree (NQF 10 level).
- Previous teaching experience at an accredited business school.
- An excellent teaching portfolio at a reputable Higher Education Institution, able to teach large groups of 50 to 150 students, preferably in the business school context.
- Excellence in postgraduate research supervision, especially on master's and PhD level.
- A strong publication track record in national and/or international accredited journals.
- Ability to develop programme outcomes and module content at MBA, PDBA and executive development levels.
- Industry related experience.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills and the ability to adapt communication to a range of audiences.
- Self management (good planning, time management, prioritising and organising skills).
- Teamwork.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Good financial management and budgeting skills.
- Problem solving and systems level thinking.
