Job Description

Last Mile Operations Manager, ZA Operations

Job ID: Amazon Commercial Services (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd

Amazon strives to be Earth's most customer-centric company, where customers can find and discover virtually anything they want to buy online. By giving customers more of what they want - low prices, vast selection, and convenience - Amazon will achieve its vision of being South Africa's most loved store.

We are looking for a hands-on operations professional to join as a leader in our growing Last Mile Operations team. You'll be at the heart of the customer experience, ensuring packages move efficiently, from fulfilment centers to customers doorsteps. You'll support both under-the-roof and on-the-road to ensure operational excellence and drive continuous improvement.

This is not "keep the lights on" position, it's a "build the machine" role. You'll have outsized impact, the chance to learn from and then lead a world-class operations engine, and the opportunity to shape the future of last mile e-commerce delivery in South Africa, requiring invention, grit, and local ingenuity.

You will be working with multiple internal and external stakeholders to achieve timely launches of new programs and capabilities, as well as deliver consistent, high quality operations outcomes for customers.

Key job responsibilities
- Launch and scale last-mile delivery operations in South Africa
- Own end-to-end delivery performance and customer experience, including on-time delivery, first-attempt success rate, and concessions
- Build, develop, and lead a high-performing operations team, hiring and coaching station leaders and front-line managers, while embedding Amazon's safety culture, operational standards, and continuous improvement mechanisms
- Drive cost-per-parcel efficiency and optimise network design decisions, by partnering with Transportation, Finance, and Planning

A day in the life
No single day will be the same but days will comprise:
- Deep-diving network and station-level performance
- Address blockers from yesterday to drive immediate corrective actions and prioritise any required interventions.
- Workforce and capacity planning
- Partner with cross-functional teams on tactical and strategic initiatives such as network expansion, program launches and efficiency initiatives
- People leadership and coaching of front-line operations team; contribute to weekly, monthly and quarterly business reviews

About the team
South Africa Operations are a small, but mighty team powering our vision to be the most loved e-commerce store in South Africa by delighting customers with the best, locally-relevant fulfillment experience. We get stuff done upholding Amazon's Day 1 culture. We are committed to developing our employees. We invent in our communities and innovate continuously. When we fail, we do so quickly, learn and iterate.

Basic Qualifications

- 5+ years of program management, logistics, operations, supply chain, transportation, or related field experience
- 2+ years of people management experience
- Experience communicating complex business concepts in verbal and written form

Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- 3+ years of performance metrics, process improvement or lean techniques experience
- Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean manufacturing efforts, transportation and logistics, or fulfillment and distribution centers
