LASER OPERATOR- Pretoria

A precision-focused machine operator role for someone who understands CNC laser cutting inside out - plate and tube. The role requires maintaining machine cleanliness, ensuring cutting accuracy, and keeping production running efficiently.

(What You'll Do)

Plate & Tube Laser Operation

• Operate CNC plate and tube/section laser cutting machines
• Work with mild steel and stainless steel materials

Setup & Programming

• Load cutting programs
• Nest parts for optimal material usage
• Interpret DXF/DWG files and cutting lists

Quality Inspection

• Conduct first-off and in-process dimensional checks
• Identify and correct defects (cross, burr, taper)

Machine Maintenance

• Perform daily pre-start checks
• Conduct nozzle changes, lens cleaning, and gas monitoring
• Report faults and issues

Safety & Housekeeping

• Adhere to OHS Act requirements
• Follow PPE protocols

Maintain laser enclosure safety at all times

(What We Need)

Experience

• Minimum 2 years' experience on a CNC plate laser
• Tube/section laser experience strongly preferred

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in CNC controllers (Fanuc, Siemens, or equivalent)
• Experience with nesting software (Lantek, SigmaNEST, Bysoft advantageous)

Qualifications

• Grade 12 / Matric (minimum requirement)
• CNC operating training or trade qualification (Fitter, Boilermaker, Millwright advantageous)

Additional Requirements

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and cutting lists
• Knowledge of assist gas selection (O, N) and its impact on cut quality
