Job Description

Responsible for the preparation and submission of the Engen group companies income tax compliance requirementsand reviewing the African Affiliates' companies submissions to meet legislative requirements, thereby reducing thetax risk of penalties and interest charges for the company and the payment of excessive taxes.

What you'll have done before:

Baseline:

  • NQF LEVEL 6 (Diploma in Accounting or Tax)
  • 5 Years' Finance/Direct Tax experience (domestic and Africa)
  • Accounting experience in GAAP/IFRS
  • Experience in SAP Finance module
What you'll be doing:

TAX AUDITS AND CONTROLS

  • Perform direct tax business audits for EPL on specific accounts.
  • Perform direct tax business audits of specific accounts for African Affiliate companies.
  • Manage & control third party tax audits (External/ Internal/ SARS)
  • Identify systems / controls problems or shortcomings and assist with the implementation of any systemchanges / improvements.
  • Maintain tax policies and procedure manuals on iZone that pertains to the preparation of the tax returns
  • Perform business compliance audits on risk areas identified on EPL accounts and Affiliates accounts, andcommunicate/present results to the business and or affiliates on a monthly basis or when they have been
  • discovered
  • Update business' non-compliance register accordingly.
  • Implement controls to mitigate any weak controls found or non adherence to controls, within agreed period.
  • Any system changes required in order to comply with legislation or to enhance controls are successfullyimplemented (on time and working as designed)
  • Attend to queries raised by the external and internal auditors relating to figures in the tax computation.
  • Provide SARS with all information requested relating to tax computations of SA group companies.
  • SARS tax account/assessment reconciled to GL for all companies and signed at FY end
  • Reports required per audit timetable delivered on due dates (tax calculations, AFS tax notes, deferred taxreconciliation and balance sheet proof)
  • Any system changes required in order to comply with legislation or to enhance controls are successfullyimplemented (on time and working as designed)
  • Perform an annual review of all relevant policies and procedure manuals on the iZone.
  • Update policies and procedures with any changes affecting the preparation of the returns.
  • Statutory compliance for company direct taxes
  • All tax returns for the South African small and dormant companies are completed and submitted withinstatutory allowed timeframe.
  • Review African Affiliate companies' tax returns before or after submission to the relevant RevenueAuthorities
  • All statutory payments for the above-mentioned companies are made on or before due date.
What you'll be doing Continued:
  • Monthly updated work schedule of all the companies responsible for indicating:
  • Due dates for all returns, amended due dates for extensions granted and AFS completion status.
  • Tax return completion status and expected completion date.
  • Statutory payment dates and status and last year assessed.
  • Objections status and Appeal status.
  • Value of query provisions.
  • Value of contingent liabilities.
  • A list of issues emanating from the review of the tax returns of the IBD companies and how it has been resolved.
  • Schedule maintained of dividends paid/received and STC paid/exemption applications for all group companies.
  • Proof of Management review at least quarterly.
  • Payment advices received from accounts payable on due date of payment.
  • No avoidable interest and penalties.
  • Keep abreast of accounting and tax related changes.
  • Provide compliance tax advice and training to the business and to the affiliates.
  • Build and manage a professional relationship with SARS and other Revenue Authorities .
  • Assist with Business Compliance where Direct Tax enters into SLA's with business divisions.
  • Obtain tax and accounting related information/books necessary to keep abreast of any legislation/ IFRS changes.
  • Regular review of SARS and other tax related websites for any tax issues.
  • Read tax law cases.
  • Provide considered and accurate tax advise to the business when requested on compliance matters.
  • Obtain sign-off from manager on any technical correspondence with Revenue Authorities .
  • All correspondence are responded to within agreed timeframe.
  • Keep a register of non compliance to procedures that affect tax by the business.
  • Demonstrated mindset that measures tax savings when giving advice or complying with legislation

CUSTOMER AND SERVICE PROVIDER INTERFACE

  • Interact with customers and service providers
  • Work with contractor to ensure deliverables are met
  • Provide internal support to the contractor

TAX PROJECTS

  • Implement agreed tax projects.
  • Projects performed diligently and completed on time
