Somerset College is a leading independent, co-educational day and boarding school offering schooling from Grade 000 to Matric - IEB and Cambridge AS and A-levels. Founded in 1997, Somerset College is a welcoming, vibrant school situated in the beautiful Cape Winelands.

The school invites applications for the following position:

HEAD OF DEPARTMENT PHYSICAL SCIENCES Commencement Date: 1 January 2027

Only candidates with a minimum of 5 years' experience as an HOD will be shortlisted.

Applicants for this position must hold an appropriate Bachelor's degree with majors in Physics and/or Chemistry together with a PGCE, or a Bachelor of Education degree with a specialisation in Physical Sciences. In addition, the successful candidate will be registered with SACE.

Substantial experience teaching Physical Sciences in the IEB curriculum is essential and prior experience as a Head of Department (HOD) within an IEB school environment will be a distinct advantage.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, along with a genuine enthusiasm, commitment, and passion for education in South Africa. A strong track record of academic excellence, sound curriculum leadership, and the ability to mentor and support fellow teachers is expected.

This is an opportunity for a dynamic and passionate Physical Sciences educator who will engage meaningfully with students, enabling them to flourish both academically and personally. The candidate should be proactive, innovative, and committed to keeping abreast of developments in education and subject pedagogy.
