GRADE R TEACHER

The Grade R Teacher is responsible for the holistic development and school readiness of children aged 5 to 6 years. This pivotal role focuses on bridging the gap between the pre-primary years and formal schooling (Grade 1) through the HighScope "Plan-Do-Review" process and intentional teaching.

• Holistic Education: Assume full educational and caregiving responsibility for learners in your class, ensuring they achieve the developmental milestones required for the Foundation Phase.
• Trust & Security: Create a safe, loving, and engaging environment that promotes trust and security, empowering learners to solve problems and take ownership of their learning.
• HighScope Integration: Apply the HighScope learner-centred approach to plan and facilitate small and large group activities that stimulate literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional development.
• Parent Partnership: Communicate regularly and transparently with parents regarding school readiness, daily progress, and learners' overall well-being.
• Collaborative Teamwork: Collaborate positively with colleagues to plan age-appropriate activities and uphold school-wide standards.
• Professional Growth: Participate in ongoing professional development and reflective practice to support continuous personal and professional growth.
• Safety: Maintain a hazard-free classroom environment suited to the active and inquisitive nature of 5-6 year olds.
• Physical Requirement Note: This is a physically demanding role requiring standing for extended periods, bending, running, sitting on the floor, and actively leading outdoor play and sports.

• Education: Relevant Bachelor of Education (Foundation Phase) or Diploma in Grade R Teaching (NQF Level 6 or 7 preferred).
• SACE: Valid registration with the South African Council for Educators (SACE).
• First Aid: Current First Aid certification is a significant advantage.
• Security: Clear criminal record (and clearance against the National Register for Sex Offenders).
• Experience: 2-4 years of experience teaching children in the 5-6 year age bracket (Grade R).
• Skills: Proven understanding of school readiness assessment.
