VACANCY

IVANPLATS (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines, is advancing the development of its world class palladium rhodium nickel copper gold project in the Limpopo Province near Mokopane. This unique mineral deposit will be exploited using large mechanised state of the art underground mining methods, deploying the latest technology to develop this "mine of the future". Suitably qualified and experienced candidates are invited to apply for the following vacancies required for the project development.

Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills
  • Degree or Diploma in Construction Management, Engineering or related field.
  • Proven experience managing multiple contractors on complex projects.
  • Strong understanding of project execution in a mining environment.
  • Experience working with emerging or developing contractors is advantageous
Suitable candidates must have the following work experience
  • Minimum 10-15 years' experience in construction within mining or heavy industry.
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to: Project Delivery Accountability
  • Assume full accountability for delivery of all community linked construction work packages.
  • Ensure all work is executed in line with approved scope, timelines and specifications.
  • Coordinate multiple contractors operating simultaneously across different work fronts.
  • Prevent fragmentation of execution by maintaining central control and accountability.
  • Ensure alignment between contractor outputs and overall project milestones.
Contractor Oversight and Development
  • Provide structured oversight and direct management of local contractors.
  • Identify capability gaps and implement practical support mechanisms.
  • Ensure contractors understand scope, sequencing, and technical requirements.
  • Actively develop contractor capability through hands on engagement and guidance.
  • Monitor contractor performance and intervene where performance risks arise.
Integration with Project Controls
  • Work closely with the Project Control Planner to ensure all work is properly scheduled.
  • Ensure that contractor activities are aligned with the integrated project schedule.
  • Monitor progress against plan and implement corrective actions where required.
  • Provide input into forecasting, progress tracking and reporting.
Commercial and Cost Oversight
  • Work closely with Quantity Surveyors to ensure accurate measurement and valuation of work.
  • Ensure contractors operate within agreed commercial frameworks.
  • Prevent cost overruns through proactive management of scope and execution.
  • Support dispute resolution and ensure fair and accurate contractor compensation.
Quality and Technical Assurance
  • Ensure all work meets required engineering and construction standards.
  • Work closely with QA/QC to enforce structured quality control processes.
  • Prevent rework through proactive supervision and early issue identification.
  • Ensure technical specifications are clearly communicated and adhered to.
Safety and Compliance
  • Ensure all construction activities comply with mine safety standards and regulations.
  • Work closely with the Safety Officer to enforce safety procedures and training.
  • Promote a strong safety culture among local contractors.
  • Prevent incidents through proactive supervision and enforcement of standards.
Stakeholder and Community Alignment
  • Ensure that local contractor participation meets SLP and stakeholder expectations.
  • Support engagement with community stakeholders where required.
  • Ensure delivery outcomes align with commitments made to local communities.
  • Mitigate risk of escalation to regulators (DMRE).

Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South Africans (HDSA) from local communities surrounding Ivanplats Platreef mine and Women. Applications are only open to South African Citizens.
