Job Description

A vacancy exists for Clinical Engineering Intern for Work Integrated Learning (P1 & P2) based at Life Groenkloof Hospital, reporting to Tshifhiwa Mango, Clinical Engineering Manager. This internship includes all aspects of medical equipment maintenance, repairs, incoming inspections, and training hospital personnel on proper use of equipment. It offers work experience aligned with the qualifications you are studying toward.

Medical Equipment Asset Management and Maintenance
  • Assist with maintaining an accurate computerised asset management system as per Group Engineering protocols.
  • Under supervision perform first line repairs, modifications, and installations of equipment using required test equipment, complying with OEM and governing agency guidelines.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections of equipment according to Group Engineering and OEM protocols.
  • Obtain and perform pre acceptance inspections according to ECRI standards on new, demo, and loan equipment.
Administration and Management
  • Monitor and report on equipment failure trends and life cycle costs.
  • Assist with the implementation of policies and procedures per Group Engineering protocols.
  • Be involved with budgeting medical equipment Capex needs.
Training
  • Perform formal operator training and monitor competency compliance by arranging training with vendors for hospital nursing staff and equipment end users.
Maintain high professional standards
  • Ensure professional growth and development through professional affiliations, conferences, and available resources, staying updated within the clinical engineering field.
Requirements
  • Completed all subjects in clinical/biomedical engineering.
  • Member of the Clinical Engineering Association of South Africa (CEASA) is an advantage.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Willing to work flexible hours.
  • Driver's licence and ability to travel.
