Department of Ichthyology and Fisheries Science
The Department of Ichthyology and Fisheries Science invite suitably qualified candidates to join their team.
Main ObjectivesAssist and support the Manager: Admin and Technical Support and be responsible for the day to day running of the Department's technical facilities required for research, teaching and service provision. Also responsible for the aquaculture facilities and outreach programmes and will be expected to work after hours and on weekends as required.
Requirements- Grade 12 with science or biology, plus approximately four years relevant experience.
- Previous experience in aquaculture and/or maintaining life support systems for marine or freshwater organisms.
- Previous experience working on a fish farm, fish hatchery or aquatic science laboratory.
- Previous technical experience and/or proven technical ability.
- Willingness to care for live animals.
- At least six months supervision experience or possession of an RU Supervision Certificate.
- Ability to swim.
- Valid driver's licence; a PDP licence an advantage and will be prepared to obtain one if required (cost covered).
- Boating experience and a Skippers licence an advantage.
- Degree/Diploma in aquatic sciences or equivalent; or studying toward such a qualification is an advantage.

EmploymentThis is advertised as a permanent post, but the University may appoint on a fixed term contract of not less than three years. The University reserves the right not to proceed with filling the post.
