Several engineering learnership opportunities are currently open for South African youth seeking practical training and workplace experience in engineering trades with globally recognised mining and metals industry leaders. These programmes lead to nationally recognised artisan qualifications and hands on skills development.

Anglo American and DeBeers Group are offering multiple engineering learnerships for South African youth seeking hands on skills development and nationally recognized artisan qualifications.

Learnership Overview

This multi trade engineering learnership initiative lets successful applicants train across various technical fields while earning practical experience on real industrial sites. Candidates selected for these programmes will participate in structured on the job and institutional training, working towards artisan certification in their chosen trade.

Learners in the DHL YES 4 Youth programme receive hands on training and a monthly stipend to support transport and daily expenses.

  • Boilermaker / Plater - heavy metal fabrication and structural work

Note: These opportunities vary in number per trade and location, depending on the specific programme and site. Participants in the Anglo American engineering learnership programme will receive practical on site training and a monthly stipend for the duration of the learnership.

Requirements / Eligibility

To be considered for any of these engineering learnerships, applicants should meet the following general criteria (specific discipline requirements may also apply):

  • South African citizenship
  • Unemployed individuals encouraged to apply
  • Matric certificate with a minimum pass in Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy), Physical Science and English (40% or higher) OR
  • N2 qualification or higher with relevant trade subjects
  • NCV Level 4 in the relevant trade with all subjects passed (minimum 40%)

In addition, some trades may require subjects such as Engineering Science, Trade Theory or Industrial Technology relevant to the selected discipline.

Applicants must be South African citizens, have a Matric certificate (with Mathematics and English), and be between 18-29 years old. No prior experience is required as the program includes full on the job training.
