Job Description
Purpose of the Role 
The HTS Counsellor will provide HIV Counselling and Testing Services (HTS) to Adolescent and Young People (AYP) aged 15-24, in line with the Department of Health's AYP guidelines. The role includes leading a team of Peer Navigators, coordinating outreach activities, promoting PrEP and linkage to care, and supporting young clients throughout the HIV prevention and care continuum.
Duties and Responsibilities- Provide HIV testing services to AYP within supported communities.
- Collaborate with AYP peer trainers and navigators to promote HTS uptake.
- Deliver health talks on HIV, STIs, TB prevention and provide basic screenings.
- Refer clients (including MSM) to relevant services where appropriate.
- Plan and coordinate community outreach events with the Site Coordinator and peer navigators.
- Mobilise youth for PrEP uptake and support continued adherence.
- Support and facilitate AYP support groups.
- Supervise, mentor, and coach a team of AYP peer navigators.
- Develop and submit weekly and monthly plans and progress reports.
- Perform any other duties as delegated by the Clinical Manager or Professional Nurse.
- Grade 12 (Matric) Certificate.
- HIV/AIDS Counselling Certificate (minimum accredited course).
- Valid Driver's Licence.
- Experience working with key populations will be an advantage.
- Proficient in basic interviewing and counselling techniques.
- Excellent facilitation, listening, and communication skills.
- Problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
- Computer literacy (MS Office) and ability to use biometric devices.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Innovative, flexible, and responsive to youth engagement.
- Ability to engage adolescents and youth in a professional and youth-friendly manner.
- Respect for confidentiality and ethical conduct at all times.
