Corporate Actuarial Head
Job Description
Direct actuarial analytical team and activities of a department specific function or area (e.g., supervision of actuarial students and clerical staff). The Corporate Actuarial Head is a business leadership role responsible for managing the actuarial valuations teams that perform production and analysis work on the SAM, IFRS, Tax and profitability balance sheets.
Responsibilities- Lead and manage actuarial teams (reserving, capital, pricing, reporting).
- Oversee the model development, reporting cycles, capital modelling, and analytics.
- Provide actuarial insights to the business and executives.
- Manage people, budgets, and operational efficiency.
- Drive strategy from an actuarial perspective.
- Ensure the organization meets business and performance objectives.
- Fellow of ASSA (Actuarial Society of South Africa) or FIA/FIAA/FCAS/FSA.
- Bachelor's or Honors degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or Risk Management.
- A Master's degree is advantageous in Actuarial Science, Applied Mathematics, Financial Engineering.
- Typically 10-15+ years actuarial experience within life insurance, short-term insurance, or financial services.
- Extensive experience in: capital modelling, reserving, pricing, IFRS17 / SAM / Solvency II, actuarial reporting and oversight.
- Deep understanding of Prudential Authority and SAM requirements; IFRS17 reporting standards, forecasting and market reporting.
- Risk and capital frameworks; audit and governance processes.
- Strong background in leading actuarial teams and managing complex actuarial functions.
- Familiarity with actuarial modelling software and analytics tools (Prophet, R, Python, SQL, etc.).
- Strong understanding of insurance risk drivers: underwriting, credit, market, operational.
- Ability to assess financial implications of strategic decisions and manage balance sheet impacts and capital efficiency discussions.
