The salary is adjusted as the trainee obtains the additional education and experience to fully meet the position qualifications as outlined in the classification specification.” The North Carolina Forest Service is a team of professionals who provide forest protection, emergency response, resource management, and environmental education to the residents and landowners of North Carolina through a variety of programs. The NC Forest Service provides services to the 100 counties in North Carolina. Educational State Forest Ranger duties include but are not limited to the presentation of forestry/environmental education programs to schools, civic groups, the general public, teach and environmental education workshops. Rangers assist in the design and development of such programs. Will often be working and coordinating volunteers, community service workers, and prison inmates. Rangers also design layouts and maintain forest trails, picnic areas, buildings, and exhibits, including routine janitorial duties. They are responsible for enforcing rules and regulations applicable to the forest. They assist in wildfire suppression efforts and maybe a member of an Incident Management Team. Will be involved in the development and implementation of the forest’s management plan including but not limited to prescribed burning, oversight in areas of timber harvesting, site preparation, reforestation, timber stand improvement, water quality, and wildlife. Benefits Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits. Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year. • Should benefits be available, this information will be discussed at the time of hire.
