Yard Manager - Port Elizabeth
Job Description
Our client in the logistics and automotive transport industry is looking to employ a Yard Manager - Port Operations to join their team based in Gqeberha.
Purpose of the RoleTo manage and control all yard operations, vehicle movements, and storage activities, ensuring accurate inventory control, compliance with operational standards, and efficient coordination between depot and port operations.
Requirements- Matric
- Valid driver's licence
- 3-6 years' experience in yard management or logistics / transport operations
- Strong understanding of vehicle movement control and yard coordination
- Experience in inventory management and stock control
- Exposure to port operations or automotive logistics - advantageous
- Strong leadership and staff management skills
- High attention to detail and organisational ability
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Strong reporting and problem-solving skills
- Oversee all vehicle movements between depot, yard, and port
- Ensure smooth flow of vehicles and prevent congestion or delays
- Coordinate daily operations with drivers, planners, and port teams
- Maintain accurate control of all vehicles in the yard
- Conduct regular stock counts and reconciliations
- Ensure alignment between system records and physical stock
- Ensure all vehicles are inspected on arrival and dispatch
- Monitor and report damages in line with operational standards
- Ensure compliance with all handling and inspection procedures
- Maintain a clean, organised, and secure yard environment
- Ensure proper vehicle positioning and traceability
- Enforce access control and security measures
- Supervise yard staff, inspectors, and vehicle handlers
- Monitor productivity, discipline, and performance
- Ensure adherence to company procedures
- Compile weekly operational, inventory, and exception reports
- Provide feedback to management on performance and issues
- Identify inefficiencies and implement improvements
- Ensure on-time vehicle movements and deliveries
- Minimise vehicle damages through strict control measures
- Maximise yard capacity and utilisation
- Prevent delays and operational bottlenecks
- Monday to Friday: 07h00 - 17h00
- Rotational shifts:
- 07h00 - 12h00 or 12h00 - 17h00
- Saturday: 07h00 - 12h00
- Flexibility required based on operational demands and port schedules
