G Adventures is a world leading small group adventure travel company dedicated to creating meaningful travel experiences that change lives. The role of Tour Leader-also known as Chief Experience Officer (CEO)-is to guide, manage, and ensure the safety and enjoyment of each expedition.

Responsibilities
  • Act as day to day guide, interpreter, and manager of the group.
  • Deal directly with travelers' issues and concerns.
  • Maintain the itinerary as closely as possible.
  • Make and confirm reservations for accommodation, transport, and activities as required.
  • Maintain daily expenditure accounts, retain receipts, and keep expenses within the trip budget.
  • Provide a trip report in the requested format and keep trip notes updated in a standardized format.
  • Train new CEOs as required, passing on all relevant information.
  • Provide assistance to the regional office when requested.
  • Advise travelers on suitable restaurants, additional transport, souvenirs, and other local needs.
  • Consistently deliver a high level of customer service and traveler satisfaction.
  • Provide leadership for travelers and be responsible for their well being.
  • Continuously increase knowledge about the region's culture, religion, current affairs, and environment.
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of hotels, sights, restaurants, transport, souvenirs, and prices.
  • Develop information sources and contacts that can be of assistance.
  • Maintain a valid passport and visa, keeping up to date with travel restrictions and health requirements.
  • Keep vaccinations and preventative medication current and mindful of opportunities for G Adventures.
  • Learn about and understand Planeterra and its relationship with G Adventures.
Requirements
  • FGASA Level 1 - Nature Guide or CATHSSETA Level 4 - Culture/Adventure/Hiking Guide, valid first aid certificate (Level 1).
  • DEAT registered (Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism) or equivalent if non resident.
  • Guiding experience of 1+ year.
  • Good basic expense accounting knowledge.
  • Computer literacy (Internet, e mail, Word, Excel) and social media proficiency.
  • Excellent English language skills-both written and spoken-and local language skills as required.
  • Demonstrated communication, leadership, problem solving, and decision making skills.
  • Awareness of and commitment to sustainable tourism.
  • Ability to handle daily stresses and long hours with high energy.
  • Physical ability to handle treks, luggage, and various active adventures.
  • Legal right to work in the region applied for.
  • Extensive knowledge of the history, geography, and culture of Africa.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge.
