Mondi invites you to apply for our Technician In Training Programme designed for those learners that have completed their 24-months academic programme S4 at a university of technology recognized by Mondi South Africa. This programme allows learners to gain practical work experience in the Pulp and Paper industry.

What is the purpose of the Technician in Training Programme?

This 12-months fixed term program allows learners to complete their P1 during a period of six months and P2 for another six months subsequently allowing successful learners to apply for their diploma from the respective universities of technology. We further offer structured on the job training and mentorship, opportunities for professional growth and skills development, exposure to real world technical environments and equipment, and a supportive, learning focused team culture.

What would you need to apply?
  • Successfully completed S4 academic programme in Electrical Engineering
  • Completed studies within 24 months
  • Achieved 60% average pass rate
  • Basic skills in SAP/Microsoft to navigate our various training systems
  • Meeting P1 & P2 requirements
  • Assist with routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities
  • Participate in technical projects and on-site support tasks
  • Conduct inspections, testing, and data collection as required
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation
  • Ensure safe process operation according to Mondi policy and procedures
  • Engage with maintenance teams on relevant equipment performance issues
Outcomes:
  • Demonstrated competency in mechanical/electrical/instrumentation maintenance and problem-solving
  • Ability to conduct inspections, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and corrective actions independently
  • Proficiency in technical reporting, equipment performance analysis, and compliance with safety standards
  • Practical experience with plant equipment, tools, and operational processes
  • Readiness to transition into a fully-fledged Technician role
  • Enhanced ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
  • Strengthened communication, planning, and organizational skills
  • A solid foundation for future growth into specialist or supervisory roles
  • Completion of structured training modules and competency assessments
  • Strengthened technical portfolio and workplace experience
  • Exposure to continuous improvement initiatives and best practice methodologies
