Technical Assistant: Fashion & Manufacturing (Internal Vacancy) - (8686)

Job Purpose: To provide technical assistance in the studio/workshop by aiding the Technician, Lecturers and students during practical classes and to ensure that studio/workshop equipment/machinery are well maintained and in good working condition at all times. Ensure machines are functional, serviced and well maintained to ensure smooth running of classes. Ensure H&S requirements are met and adhered.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • At least two (2) years experience in fashion manufacturing environment
  • Experience working with a variety of clothing manufacturing materials, techniques and clothing production machinery
Recommendation
  • A National Diploma in Fashion
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
  • Preparation for practical classes
  • Administering stock and assisting in management of components in the studio/workshop.
  • Assist with setting up of machines/equipment in the studio/workshop
  • Maintenance and repair of machinery/equipment (equipment checking, diagnostics and light repairs)
  • Procurement and managing spares, materials and consumables
  • Stands in for the Technician on request to supervise the studio/workshop, to assist with demonstrations, to attend to faulty equipment etc.
  • Assist the technicians in budgeting and planning sessions
  • Perform administrative tasks related to the role

  • Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department
