Systems Integration Engineer

Hileya - Management Consulting

Job Description

Job Description / Responsibilities:

Design and implement secure, reliable integrations between internal services, card/payment platforms, and third party systems using API led and message driven approaches.

Define integration contracts and interface specifications (API schemas, payloads, mappings, error models), enabling parallel development across teams and partners.

Build and maintain integration components such as middleware services, adaptors/connectors, and orchestration flows; support both synchronous and asynchronous patterns. Implement transformation and mapping logic (canonical models where appropriate), handling differing schemas/protocols across systems.

Engineer robust operational controls: retries, idempotency, dead letter/error handling, reconciliation, and end to end monitoring/alerting to protect production stability.

Collaborate with security and platform teams to ensure integrations meet security and compliance expectations for payments environments.

Participate in incident investigation and root cause analysis for integration failures; drive preventative improvements and runbook maturity.

Contribute to CI/CD automation, environment readiness, and release execution for integration services and pipelines.

Background and experience required: Required Skills:
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; able to break ambiguous integration problems into clear interfaces, flows, and delivery increments.
  • Deep understanding of API integration concepts including contract first/API specification practices (Open API), versioning, and backward compatibility.
  • Experience with messaging and enterprise integration patterns (routing, transformation, orchestration) and practical application of these patterns.
  • Working knowledge of modern authorization approaches for APIs (OAuth 2.0 concepts) and secure system to system integration practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting capability across distributed systems (logs, traces, metrics) and ability to diagnose intermittent failures and data issues.
  • Experience with CI/CD and automation; comfortable working with Git based workflows in multi team environments.
  • Professional stakeholder interaction: able to communicate integration contracts, constraints, and incident impacts clearly to both technical and non technical audiences.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree or Advanced Diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent experience in software/integration engineering.
  • 4 - 6+ years' experience for Intermediate level; 7-10+ years for Senior level, delivering production integrations across multiple systems/platforms.
  • Experience delivering API and/or event driven integrations using common enterprise approaches (API gateways, ESB/iPaaS, message brokers, ETL where relevant).
  • Strong experience with integration testing approaches (contract testing, component/integration tests) and environment strategy for reliable releases.
  • Advantageous: exposure to payments environments and compliance driven security expectations (PCI DSS awareness; secure coding aligned to OWASP Top 10).
Attitudes:
  • A passion for innovation and a curiosity to explore new technologies.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross functional teams.
  • Dedication to ongoing professional development and staying updated on industry trends.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively convey technical concepts to non technical stakeholders.
  • Adaptability and resilience in fast paced and dynamic work environments.
